Finally caved and lit the cellar monster tonight. It's been pretty warm for November, but the boiler kicked in two mornings in a row, so I figured I'd warm the core of the house up. The soapstone takes a while to warm up and throw heat, but once it does it does a heck of a job. I won't be able to reload it without cooking us out of the house, but once it warms the core of the house up the boiler probably won't kick on for another couple of days.

    El Nino.
We're still in the 50's and 60's here during the day. It's messed up; Last year in November I was hunting in 10 degree weather with a foot of snow.

Picked up a Stihl 026 over the summer at a yard sale for 100$. After a new chain and bar she cuts like butter.

Yup. Firewood gathering season. Seems like all my pockets have saw chips in them.

Rebuilding the pile. Cut down 4 oaks that had their tops blown out a couple years ago. Got 8 nice logs out of them. 6 still need skidded out.

It was local . It was at my local stone yard .

The sandstone on the wall came from about 1km away from my house

I use a outdoor boiler, http://www.heatmasterss.com/mf-series/ and burn 10 to 15 cords of mixed locust ,oak and maple. My saw is Stihl MS 362. My wife keeps a 3000 sq ft house at 70degrees and I use a max of 250 gallons of oil a year. The boiler also makes my hot water.

Damn. Reminds my of my grandmother's house. She used to burn that kind of wood and a few tons of coal every year. But hers was a pre-civil war farmhouse with an attached barn, and she did her damnedest to keep it close to 80 degrees, lol.

Hurried into the woods after work and grabbed this 35 footer and a couple others before dark. Friggin time change.

I had a pine tree next to the driveway I took down this year, cut it up and stacked it out by the road, it sat there for a week and a half. Put a sign on it that it was FREE, it was gone in a couple hours. They left the sign and the pallet that I had it stacked on (damnit).
