Do you transfer the wood on pallets to the house from the storage location with a forklift?

Bring in one pallet at a time in the attached garage with my tractor. It's the first year for this, it's saves lots of handling

Or maybe a tractor with pallet forks on the bucket?

Edit- Oh hey look at that. Too slow.

Lots of wasted space in that woodshed, though, with all those pallets. You must not use wood for your primary?

Primary for the living space ( bungalow) electric radiant everywhere else. Your right it does take up extra space, but I save so much time it's worth it, I pile it directly on the pallets when I am splitting it

For sure it makes sense for how much you use. I'd love to have a similar setup, but I'd need a giant-ass woodshed to accomodate the 5+/- cords I put up.

Last year was an easy year, we burnt 7 face cords (16 inch). There is 12 1/2, 16" face cords under that leanto

Does that include the space lost to pallets? Or is it a measurement of just the firewood itself?

Another reason to help convince the wife to let me buy a tractor with an additional pallet fork attachment.

Nice. Winters have been hard to gauge around here lately. Winter of 13/14 I went through all 5 of my cords, plus about 1/2 cord of semi-seasoned I had to mix in. Winter of 14/15 I put up an extra cord and nearly burned through all of that. Last winter (15/16) I put up 6 cord again and I've still got 2.5-3 of it left. So I'm putting up 6 again, lol.

It was a mild winter here too. I only burned 2 cords as opposed to 3 to 3 1/2 (Canadian bush cords of nice dry elm/ash/oak/soft maple ;)). I have over 4 cord left, but I always like to have more than I need.

i agree with you 100%, i have always cut my own wood, buy a face cord that should be 16" but is only 12" is a real piss off, there are a lot of people out here that do it that way....
