I'm right at sea level on the coast , our winters are pretty tame here

 

I lived in Portland years ago. It must be a similar winter then. I could see that. Your wood is probably better than mine too.... We have 70 acre of wind blown down wood, so I burn it just not to see it go to waste.

Wow burning fur has always seemed weird to me as I put it in the pine family.... How long do you have to season it?

 

Fir is the predominant firewood here

Well I framed my whole house out of it .... It likes to splinter off when using the nail gun... But really straight stuff

 

" fir " in lumber grading can be about 6 different species

 

Honestly when I was getting my lumber package for my house it was about cost.... Home depot came in 2000 dollars cheaper . I was suprised when I got kiln dried fur.

 

SPF and DFir framing lumber is almost all kiln dried here

 

I am so use to shit pine.... Like they use for trusses.

 

Another thing was when I was using my drywall gun to hang. The gun did not like the fir at all. I gave up and used a dimple bit with my impact.

 

Truss SPF here is Kiln dried MSR machine rated

 

My trusses were made in state... My TJIs were made in Canada.

 

I've used TJI's but most of the floor framing I've done is dimensional lumber

 

I would never go back...... It was the first time I used TJI and after 2 years...not a squeak not a bounce... I am sold on them. To be fair I have advantech then t and g., but man this floor is solid. Only down fall is my inspector wanted the entire basement ceiling drywalled. I ended up spraying it with firezoff coating.

 

So much more expensive , bouncy and in my experience just as likely to squeak , I only use them for long spans

 

I ran 32' lengths 16 c .....my dad was mad at me that day...so I installed approx 60 of them in one day by myself. My 64' I beam and lollie columns take up up the bounce. You can jump up and down in my house no prob no rattles or shakes( trust me I have twin nine year olds)

 

I used KD DFir 2x12 @ 16" OC at my place

 

What length though?
