I'm cookin'! Built the addition around the concept of putting the wood stove in it, since they aren't rated for use in a mobile home like mine.

16F here, wood stove is rockin' out tonight. Tomorrow promises more of the same.

The windshield in my car started creaking as I came up the hill to the house. 24F down at the bottom of the hill. Must be some kind of glass threshold.

Is that -9 in American or Canadian? It was 1 Fahrenheit yesterday morning at home, so something about -17C if my math is right. Wife brought the goats inside to warm up because they were shivering.

Its the moisture content that makes it so miserable

From about 20 F and lower, moisture content doesn't make so much difference. By that point, it is getting to just be straight cold. Going into the teens, single digits, then negative just is bitter cold.

The big old oak came down yesterday. It died over the past 3 years; I'm pretty sure it suffered a lightning strike. I have quite a splitting task ahead of me.

Thanks. Saves me a bundle on my electric bill for heat...and since I'm in the woods, firewood is not really hard to get...

I'll trade you split seasoned Pine at 2:1 for unsplit oak if you bring it to me. You bring me a cord, I'll load you up with 2 cords. I get pine easily enough. It is great for starting fires, even with larger pieces.

I hear ya, just finished my install on Friday. Haven't used central heat since, the cabin stays around 70-73 degrees. Just in time too, my last power bill was $332! WTF

-13 here on Friday night (-25, if you're metrical). Had the stove a-crankin'

Then yesterday it started out as freezing rain until we had 1/8 of ice on everything, then it warmed up to the lower 50's and melted it all off, and we had to open windows because the stove cooked us out.

This morning, we're back in the lower 20's

We've actually been dropping as the day goes on. We started out at 24 this morning, and now we're at 12.
