I had a good run of not not burning but the past 2 days have been raw and in the 30's. I think we are in the home stretch though.

Southern Indiana: +70 today! Above normal of course, but forecast is upper 50's+ for the next week.
Combined my different wood type piles about a week ago and kissed that chit goodbye for 6 months! :bananadance:

Even cut grass today for the first time this year.

Yeah, even up my way we're supposed to have lows in the 40's next week, apparently.

It is not cold enough for wood. I light a small aux propane heater in the morning and we dress warmer.

I figured there was whiskey in the glass. Just curious if the cat was named it as well. I have a cat named Gin.

Nah. We adopted a male cat named Tony from the shelter, but when we picked 'him' up after he got fixed and got 'him' home it turned out to be a female. We got her on a Friday before a holiday weekend, and by the time Tuesday came we'd decided to keep her (and her brother had been adopted again anyway), but since she was already responding to "Tony" so we changed it to Toni instead. :notsure:

Toni very much enjoys when we light the cook stove in the addition...

One of my old cats used to sit and stare into the woodstove with his nose literally an inch from the glass , you could barely touch him he would get so hot lol

Is that the short handle splitting axe? I got the long handle one this winter and it doesn't have that little curve at the end.

Glad I found this thread, just finished my first winter with a woodstove, I've still got a lot to learn.

Sub’d. I knew TW would deliver, there is a thread for everything!

Moved a year ago to a house with a propane stove insert and I’m not a fan. So decided to look for a wood stove but a friend of mine suggested a pellet stove.

I grew up with a wood stove so I really like them but my wife didn’t, so she is more inclined towards the pellet stove. Which she feels is less messy and would be easy for her to start and keep going.

We have a propane hvac system that we mainly used this last winter for heat and it was pricey.

I think after talking with a few vendors I get the pros and cons of pellet stoves but I’m not familiar with what brands are good and which ones to stay away from. I’d like to buy used so sticking with good brands is important, mainly so I can still get parts.

Any great brands or brands to stay from?

I know big box store stoves can be dicey so I’m willing to spend more to get a good one.

The new one I’m considering (if used is a bust) is the Enviro Meridian which is $3600 locally so would be backed by the vendor for warranty stuff.

Oh needs to heat up 2000sqft

Fired up the stove a few days last week, and then again this morning. What do you call Spring/Winter ... Sprinter?

I have a Harman Accentra pellet insert. Use it for primary heat in my 1900sqft ranch. I end up using about 4 tons of pellets a year (Oct to March). I’m in SE PA.

I do weekly clean ups, monthly detail cleanings, and have only had one thing that needed repairs during its 8 years of use.

We heat about 1400sqft with a Harman P43 (43,000 BTU) less than 3 tons per winter. Propane was priced at $1700. Pellets can go $450 for 3 tons, The winter of 2017 I had 3 tons delivered for $880. So prices can vary and pellet quality does as well.
I would buy new but that’s just me.

    Thanks!

We spend about $1400 on propane this winter. Oct-now.

And we only heat the house to 66F... wife wasn’t having it anymore.

    Coldest February on record though.

Pellet quality will vary, i got my 4 tons delivered and stacked in the garage for just under 1K. I buy a high quality pellet.
My bedroom was 68 through the coldest nights, with the room the stove is in was at 75 or so.
