Well it was about 80oF today, but the new stove was finally installed on the refurbished floor so it was time to "cure the paint" on the Osburn 2200. That involves two 250oF burns followed by a 450oF burn. I was on the home improvement thread for advice on said floor so after the walls get painted I will be posting the results of my floor remodel in that thread, but you guys get a teaser. I will have to post of pictures of my wood wagon and piles sometime. I probably wont be cutting much for another month or so (I cut late fall through mid winter for the following years wood). It is likely I will not be burning regularly for another two weeks or so.

Any of you guys used a wood pellet heating stove? I'm a little tempted to get a small one for a bedroom where a full-size wood burner isn't really a practical choice.

This one is in the same style as that wood burner I posted the picture of - all the way down to the gnomes on the feet.

How often is somebody occupying said bedroom? Every night, or just occasionally?
Reason I ask is, pellet stoves take maintenance. You've got to vacuum them out every so often, and they need new gaskets at least semi-yearly in order to function correctly (used one as a supplemental heat source in the old house).
They also take a little while to heat up and cool down, which isn't a huge deal, but it can be inconvenient if you're just looking to take the chill out of a bedroom before you go to bed.
Plus, unless it's a giant-ass bedroom, even that small stove will likely cook you out of it. The Gnome is rated for 750 feet, so even on low heat a 12x16 bedroom might get too warm.

I'd say go with one of the little electric ones, honestly. Unless you've got your heart set on some sort of wood-based heat for that bedroom, of course.
The electric unit would have the advantage of no setup costs. No need for a hearth, no cutting holes in your wall, just unwrap it and plug it in.

I have an Eviro EF-4 insert pellet stove. That thing will easily heat us out of the living room. I would only recommend a pellet stove if you are trying to heat a larger area, a bedroom may become a sauna real quickly.

The only main issue I have with the pellet stove (I don't mind the maintenance, keeps me busy), is if the power goes out. New England is pretty well known for ice covered branches taking out power lines when it snows heavily; when that happens, I am left without heat. My fireplace is already filled with a stove and I do not have a generator.

It's a "sometimes occupied" room, and it connects into a larger area.

If the power goes out - well there's the "for real" wood stove downstairs.

this side view shows the lid on top that you can open to drop longer pieces of firewood inside - also the air intake valve at the bottom.

I've always liked the idea of wood heat in a home. It is the cheapest and it makes a home cozy. Reminds me of my Grandma's house and my girlfriend's Grandma's house. What does everybody do to keep their pets safe from the stoves? I would like to have a wood stove in my own home someday, but pets are my only worry.

Edit: And kids of course when they're younger.

You seem to have some reservations about this? One local guy's offering me money for it that I could put towards a new one of similar design. Thelin bought out Thompson years ago, so now it's only the Thelin hearth products company instead of "Thelin-Thompson"

    http://thelinco.com/product/parlour-t-4000-wood-stove/

But it's been burning wood at this location forever, (you can see the flagstone hearth in the background) and I'm replacing the chimney.

If you mean me Steve , I don't have any concerns with your stove as long as there are decent clearances to combustibles , I used to have a cast iron stove without and fire brick and a screw style damper in my shop , on our poker nights in there we would be in our shorts and t shirts with snow outside and all the doors and windows open wide , haha

Pets won't get hurt, they know better. Our cats would lay in front of the stove and get hot to the touch but they like that

Well not so much cats as much as dogs. I know how curious they get with something new and they'll want to sniff something. They'll burn their nose off. lol

Honestly as long as they're not really ditsy they'll be fine. It's not like the air around the stove is cool, we had a thermometer 5 feet from our stove that would regularly top 120*F.

That's true. I'm more worried about our current dog. Can't teach an old dog new tricks. I guess we'll have to find a way to get him to realize that it is really hot when we get a home. I'm not so worried about future dogs since they'll grow up around the stove and realize it's hot.

One of my cats would rub against the handle of the door with his face , occasionally singe his tail on the glass and sleep so close to the stove you couldn't touch him because he was too hot

Ouch. I probably wouldn't get one with a glass unless I could keep the pets away. I love the glass since you can see how the wood is burning and adds a cozy effect, but the glass gets really hot. I burned the heck out of my finger on the glass on our gas wood stove in our living room after it was on for only 10 minutes.
