    It sure does.

Cheap and easy. My chimney sweep guy uses a cleaner on it when he comes but he recommended just using the ashes and paper towel every now and then to maintain.

    Nice stove!

I’d leave it there for a few burns then move it to the stove pipe for a few. That way you get an idea of what range of temps they run at. Then put it wherever you’d like after that.

I don’t think there is a wrong place just depends on what you want to monitor.

I haven't yet. It's in the works. Just cleaned it and fired it up. Seems okay for now.

I removed/replaced, with new sealant, the top of our stove year before last. We reduced our usage about a third.

    For sure.

For what it’s worth. I’ve always liked monitoring the stove pipe because it shows the heat “escaping” the stove. Although I know the stove pipe does a lot to heat the room.

My latest stove (house) is an insert so my only option is the stove itself. Definitely an eye opener when you see it running 500f+
In my experience a flue temp above that is scary. YMMV. I’ve lived in a few sketchy places, my current place an exception.

Jotul F500 because we wanted side door for loading plus bigger log lengths.
