A few cord of some nice east coast hardwoods; oak, red oak, walnut and black walnut:

Someday I will get a fireplace, but I just burn in the pit for now outside.

Woop 1001 post. I love wood heat and can't wait until it is colder.

We heated/cooked with wood and coal as I grew up.

We lived above Oley between my Pop's parents and grandparents on one side and my great uncle and aunt on the other.

My job starting around 5-6 years old was to keep the wood boxes filled.
    By about 8 I was splitting and Granpop clapped a chainsaw in my hand during my 10th winter with a comprehensive safety lecture consisting of;
"Watch you don't cut your cot-dam-ned leg off."
He was really PA Dutchified and he spoke the English in the Dutch sort of rhythm.

Even my Pop used to tell people until I was about 12 I thought my name was "Get wood."

Some of the new coal furnaces do look interesting.

Humm....maybe a difference between freestanding and insert as far as the side radiant heat. I have a freestanding Osburn 2200 that I think would fry a TV that close to it.

My stove is in a semi-finished basement with an epoxied cement floor and after a day or two of running the stove the floor is covered with a light film of ash. I need to get me one of the dusting wives you talk about. If you know of any good ones available let me know:D.

I guess I do not mind the low humidity to much. I do put a pot on the stove and the GF runs a humidifier in the bedroom. The only problem I have is with dandruff. If my hygrometer is accurate then the house is around 30% relative humidity in the depths of winter

Put a fan on one side of the wood stove to help blow the heat around. It helps a bit.

Nice stack. What model Husky do you have?

X2. We have one also and it's great. I need to get a second one so I can have one for each of the stoves.

I have a dual squirrel cage fan blowing between the firebox and heat shield, it helps tremendously.

Not my stack. I wish I could have found that much black walnut; I'd be getting it ready to turn on my lathe already!

Shoot that would be on the saw mill in a heart beat! I have a 1000 board feet of it in a barn in VT that came from my place in MD.

Haha, black walnut grows like a weed around here and it only burns mediocre (for the wood I have available). I have saved some large knotty pieces to carve into something someday.....when I come up with a good idea of what to make them into.

Nothing major or fancy. Just stuff to make it work better for me. Running boards, seat covers, BakFlip
We heat entirely with wood. Here's a picture of a recent project, Ponderosa Pine that we took down because of root rot.

How long are you seasoning it for? My Aunt & Uncle lived in PA for a while, and they loved burning Black Walnut, said that it threw great heat. But he did complain that it didn't leave many coals for relighting the fire in the morning so they mostly burnt it during the day.

I just got a small maple yesterday, and I will be getting another one later this week. Still very green so it will definitely take some time to season, but I was excited for it.
