    BTW a 6" pipe through a 8" sleeve only gives you 1" on all sides:cool:

    Doubt it , madrone isn't really a merchantable species and pellets are made from industrial waste products of merchantable species

    If you ever get so much fast snow your intake clogs you can unhook it at the unit and it will run fine on house air unless your house is truly airtight, in which case you crack a window.

    Neat! I was riding an ATV in the woods some years ago and had an owl swoop directly over my head from behind, only a few feet over my head. Just about crapped myself, I was so surprised. But I always like seeing them out in the woods.

    Hi all, I guess I'm the new guy.

    I've got an outdoor boiler, (Central Boiler), I guess I go through 8-9 cords a year, oak, hickory, poplar, locust. What ever I can scrounge up.

    It sounds like a lot, but it heats 2200 sf of 1880 house, and all domestic hot water.

    It's a bad pic and will need another paint job, but this is a 30+ year old wood stove my brother and I painted a couple years back.

    Wired brushed, then sand paper, then high heat paint. We did it in red and black to make it keep the antique look.

    Sweet. Love that tongue-in-groove pine look.
    Hopefully that cabin comes with a couple of ceiling fans to push the heat back down.

    For a plate steel stove sanding and repainting would probably be best. I use stove black on both of my stoves, but they're cast iron so they hold the black better. Stove black on a steel stove always seems to come out looking patchy & swirly.

    No worries. Not like it was super vital to national security or anything.
    Although sometimes I wonder if the Oz might be a spy - He's got that shifty 'Canadian' look. :spy:

    Does look odd. Makes the transition to metalbestos where the brickwork stops, so I'd say it's to protect the wood from excess heat. Although, any longer of a run with uninsulated pipe and I bet they'd have been looking at a lot of creosote.
