Lol , I like my little Makita electric , I use it mostly for timber work and cutting steep angled hip and valley rafters

I have a Husqvarna saw for the regular firewood stuff

I suppose this could go in the welding thread, too, but since it's for firewood, I'll put it in here. Part of the rules for our firewood collection is that you can't skid lengths out. Last week, when I tried to carry lengths of oak out on my shoulders, I damn near killed myself. So I sat around designing, in my head, a lightweight log skid that used wheels to avoid dragging up the ground. Here is my high-tech, NASA quality schematic sketch.

    tmp_11285-IMG_20150919_1845323941478255249.jpg

And the finished product. This telescopes in and out and should allow me to carry one large, or multiple small, lengths up to 6 feet.

    tmp_11285-IMG_20150919_184505522-1872400437.jpg

If all goes well, I hope to test it while gathering a load tomorrow.

Interesting design. Looks like it'd have a high center of gravity with a decent sized log on it, though. Might end up having to bump the wheels out a little bit more for stability on rough terrain or a side slope. Or maybe put some high-performance negative camber on them, lol!

I didn't intend for the COG to be that high. I think I'll shorten the axle mount two or three inches to lower it because it definitely tended to tip over today over rough terrain. I also need to reinforce a couple places. Other than that, it sure beat carrying all these logs on my shoulder!

Sweet. Glad it worked well for you. Every design always has a few kinks to work out; once you get the details hammered out you should have a good reliable little log wagon. I'm kind of surprised you didn't put a crossbar on the front to carry it with; seems like that would give you more leverage. Or would that be too wide for where you're taking it?

I left the handle pretty basic because I wasn't sure how I'd be using it, whether pulling it behind me like a wagon or pushing it in front of me like a wheelbarrow. I ended up doing both equally. A T-handle is one of the designs playing around in my head, along with a two prong V-handle. First on today's list, however, is to fix the washing machine then buck, split, and stack what I brought home yesterday.

Unfortunately, not my priorities. What the CFO wants, she gets.

I don't think the basement gets warm enough to really do that. last year i did a lot of measuring temperatures around the basement while burning, and i was lucky to get the floor joists above the stove any warmer than 80*. I think the main problem is that its a large, uninsulated space

I'll have to look in to them.
    thanks.

    haha same here.

Yeah, I've installed a couple of them and they're pretty easy. You can do it in an afternoon without too much trouble.

Was 37 at my house yesterday morning, and 44 this morning. The season is coming! :cookiemonster:

Just saw this thread and thought I would share my new wood shed. It'll hold 6 cords when full. I am still in the process of filling it (I have the wood already split nearby). I am so excited to do away with tarps.20150723_193933.jpg

Nice! Would it be easier to handle if the wheels were not all the way at one end? Also might make it easier to lift and maneuver when loaded.
Also very nice! :jellydance: I'm still using tarps.
