This was yesterdays puzzle. By the 3rd line I hadn't gotten any consonants and thought there is no way I'm going to get this. I had tried all my standard consonants and got zip. 5 letter word with I, O and E in it. Then it just popped into my head. Weird.

I think the key is picking the first word that contains the most commonly used letters. My go-to first word is “stern”.

What are your common first words?

My go-to is canoe. It’s treated me well so far. My wife’s is adieu to use up a bunch of vowels.

I try to find vowels first, so words with a lot of them. I am trying different strategies, which I think makes it more fun. Today, after my first word I had one green exact and two yellow close.

For the second, I used all different letters except the green exact match, which got me another green match and eliminated a consonant.

On the third word, I used all different letters, no exact match green or yellow close. This eliminated a bunch of letters and got me another yellow close, narrowing down the remaining possibilities. Got the word right on the one after.

In retrospect I should have swapped the order of the second and third. My thinking is if I don't use the letters I know are in the word it gives me more chances at finding ones that are. When I did that a few times it narrows down the options considerably.

Key is to start with two or three random words that use most/all the vowels and very common consonants. People get caught in the trap of trying to guess a word using the one letter you already have within the first 3 guesses. Much, much better to pick a completely different word that has a strong likelihood of getting more letters.

Using this strategy I rarely get it right within the first 3 guesses but 80% are won on the 4th attempt and probably less than 5% are lost entirely

Unless you’re like me and playing hard mode in which case you have to use the letters you’ve found. My streak of 67 ended this week on cater because I had _ater after my third guess but too many letters left that worked :annoyed:

I always start with “audio” then will usually follow up with the letters that are right and add an “e” in the next word. Been working great .
