Ended up at over 168 miles with over 24 mpg avg. And that speed of 68 mph was locked in CC for 98 percent of that trip on I-80/88. Sure I wasn't in the left lane much but got there just the same. Few minutes is worth it, and no tickets. CC was working great, no 4th gear hang ups. I'm up to date on my trans calibrations. Tires at 32, maybe 400lbs of cargo including myself. Cheers
TL;DR Go the speed limit, get sticker mpg.

    edit: pardon the dust

Go less than the speed limit and get more than sticker

Also helps not adding over 1000 lbs of crap and 200 lb tires

To a point... go below 50 mph and it's like going above 55 mph.

Well, you see, people here like to overload their trucks with unnecessary armour, super heavy E rated tyres that never were meant to be on a truck such size and bring with them the whole house out camping, because they do need it all! How else people around will know that they are off-roading?! /s :notsure:

Wind has a lot to do with it. I just did an 8 hour round trip to Tulsa OK and back. With 10-15 mph of tailwind going up, I got 21 mpg on my 6MT doing 70-75. On the way home, same day, same roads, same speed, but now with 10-15 mph headwind, I got 18.5 mpg.
At 70 mph with a 10 mph tailwind, my truck thinks it’s going 60 mph, but with a 10 mph headwind it thinks it’s going 80 mph. Wind has a lot to do with mpg in these trucks.

If you travel from north to south it's a known fact you'll get better gas milage bc you're going down the earth. And gravity /s

I just did a 600 mile round trip from SF area up through the Sierras and back. Averaged just over 20mph combined. Was 19.5 on the way to Reno and 21mph on the way back down. Would have been better except it was very windy going into a headwind on the way back. At times doing 70mph I would be in 4th gear and most of the time 5th. Didn’t bother me at all, I’m happy to get 20mph combined carrying my dirt bike, gear, tools, food and clothes.

Not trying to start a :crapstorm:, but I have to say that I find those pics of the average fuel economy fairly meaningless. Just by drafting I can improve my gas mileage by 3-5 mpg, the octane rating comes into play as well (I noticed quite a bit of difference between 87 and 93) and the driving style choices matter. Doesn't a tonneau cover also improve the gas mileage by up to 10 % (remember reading that somewhere)? But - to each his/her own...;)
(I'm happy if I get 17 mpg average with the driving I do lol)
