Working man pants that don’t suck?

I’m willing to try just about anything at this point…




Anyone who’s thighs are bigger than their calves and work with metal/wood/etc for a living found pants that both FIT and don’t blow holes within a month, especially in the crotch. I don’t mind the breeze but my co workers may call HR if I don’t find some real pants soon.

I bit the bullet and ordered some 1620 pants to try but they didn’t fit so ordering other sizes to try.

Everything from Levi’s to Wranglers to Carhart to Revtown (super comfy, but get holes super quick) haven’t worked for me.

1620s so far are way too tight in the thigh and baggy everywhere else (ordered more to try).

Haven’t tried Duluth, Bulletprufe (however they spell it), Truewerk, or Patagonia yet.

Until now I was trying to keep the cost at least moderate but if I can find a pair that actually fit my thunder thighs and actually last me a year (or two or three) without blowing out the crotch and getting destroyed I’d drop a pretty penny at this point.

Are we just doomed to have uncomfortable or cheap pants?

Have you tried anything with a stretch fabric. Dickies, Wrangler, Levis, and several others are making work pants and jeans that are 98% cotton, but with 2% elastine or spandex woven into the fabric. They LOOK just like the regular pants, but will stretch in all directions. That is the only thing I wear anymore.

They are available in several fits from loose to skinny jeans. But I find the athletic cut fits me best. The relaxed fit is too loose and regular is too tight. Not baggy at all, but if you're active they stretch enough to be comfortable. The stretch should prevent crotch blow-out.

Arborwear has gusseted crotches in theirs......designed for tree climbers/arborists.

Some have (at least had) double front legs.

 

My Go to have always been Wrangler Relaxed Fit for pretty much my whole work life.

I have huge thighs from my Horse riding youth.

Granted when your welding every time you wash the pants more and more holes.

Some jobs I wore them every day for my 6day 12 hour day weeks and then tossed them just a matter of how intense the welding was.

Now with only hobby welding my wranglers last till I eat to much.

They work for me.

I was a collegiate bicycle racer that discovered beer in his working years and got fat.

For office/laboratory and camping I run around in wrangler ATG synthetics. They last me about two years before they wear thin, but they're cheap, lightweight, and dry quickly.

For my bulletproof pants, I go to the discount PPE/work clothing store on the shady part of town, and pick up a couple of lightly used sets of FRC rated trousers.

I use my 9 dollar FRCs to mow the lawn with. Yeah they are hotter than a half-fucked fox in a forest fire, but you don't even feel the stray projectiles from your string trimmer when wearing them. They are a real shin saver. Plus it gets the neighbors all gossipin about wearing hi-vis FRCs to mow. Makes them think that I do real manly shit for my day job.

 

I’ve been using the Duluth fire hose work pants. They are the best pants I’ve found that don’t wear out that fast they last me at least 2 years. They are not that cheap but they last a lot longer than the other brands ( and I tried all of them I’m a contractor for 40 years)

 

I used to love Duluth, but it seems they have changed their marketing to add more lines and the same ones that were great seem to wear out too fast. Not to mention their No-Bull Guarantee is now just Bull.. I picked up some Ariat Rebar pants that I'm testing out.

I have good luck with wrangler riggs. Got a pair that are 2 years old. They've spent their whole life being abused in the shop 5 days a week
