My fear is of leaks from removing the rubber strip.
Anyone have any issues with leaks after the roof rack install?

Tacomas are easy because they're pre-drilled for roof racks. You just bolt them in so no fear of leaking due to having to drill your own holes and seal them up. Our favorites over here are Sherpa racks as they have proven themselves to be VERY sturdy and reliable with build quality. Other crowd favorites are going to be Uptop and Prinsu.

The rubber strip has no role in waterproofing the roof. Every truck has 8 pre-tapped holes for the OEM roof rack, with a thick layer of paint covering them. When installing any brand of roof rack, you'll punch through the paint, exposing the threaded holes. Obviously you'll want to use silicone to seal the holes when installing bolts into them to alleviate the chance of leaks. Thousands upon thousands of us are out here with various brands of roof racks and no leaks. I'm sure there are plenty who incurred leaks afterwards, but a simple reinstall/taking more time to ensure sealant is adequate would solve it.

No money, all went to truck...
If you puncture the factory seal over the mount holes under the rubber strip, you need to seal the factory holes. A butyl sealant is best. I used butyl sealant and a butyl tape for insurance from leaks.

This is correct except it’s a strip of foam tape covering the holes, not just a thick layer of paint.

    Thank you guys so much.
    I'll soon have one installed.
    Really like the Sherpa tun
Just so price extremely high with the added mounting light bar
I notice another company selling the sherpa roof rack for my 2020 Tacoma and was $200 less than original price from the sherpa company asking price.
    Time will tell.
    Need to save some more$
    Again thank you all
