Worried to take my '19 Pro offroad... Are having spare parts a thing?

I have been itching to take my 2019 TRD Pro to the offroad park near my house, but I am worried that I will break something. My Taco is my daily driver, and without it, I wouldnt be able to get to work and things. Maybe I need to find a cheap "backup" car... which ideally would be a 4-cyl. manual taco.

Does anyone have the same issue/worry, but still go offroad? Do you have spare parts for things that commonly can break when going off road? Like new springs? or shocks? or... I dont know.

Maybe I should just renegotiate my sick/vacation days....

 

Not sure what your concern is about. The Pro is the most capable off-road Tacoma Toyota makes. Are you rock crawling?

 

Two questions you should be asking are, Will my insurance and warranty cover me if I take my new daily driver off roading.

The answer is, maybe/maybe not, and probably not.

 

Read your policy. The answer is almost universally NO. However, it all depends on how you word the situation. Don't lie, but you don't have to give ALL the details.

 

Unless you are getting creepy crawly, you are gonna be totally fine. People run Fins and Things and Hells Revenge in Moab in stock vehicles all the time.

You may consider doing the exhaust chop to save your rear bedside, but you should do fine as is.

The thing I see people break the most in Moab are wheel bearings, CV axles, and driveshafts. Most people aren't fixing trail side, but most aren't breaking them in the first place. If you are breaking coilover components, your technique sucks.

Yep, you have a Pro, this is what is supposedly is built for and why folks buy it a Pro for, right?

 

Just know the capabilities of your truck. Start with easy trails, get comfortable with how your truck handles, then go from there.

 

What I find is people that have never driven off-road underestimate the capability of the truck. I have amazed people all the time with my 2017 TRD off-road. A lot of trails have ratings, go for the easy trails first. Your biggest limitation will be the stock tires. Just take it easy with mild stuff first and then you will try slightly more difficult things over time and learn as you gain confidence.

 

Only jump it 6 feet at first.

 

Like stated above, Learning capabilities as a driver and of the vehicle is most critical. Then you can slowly modify to your liking. Your truck is incredibly capable. Take everything slowly and youll be fine.

Also - most damage occurs from people using too much skinny peddle on the tough stuff. Finesse will get you through most things without breaking stuff. It's not a trophy truck.

spare ujoints for driveshaft
spare carrier bearing
spare CV axle
spare inner and outer tie rod
spare tire, for your spare tire
tire plug kit
compressor
spare lug nutz
spare front bearing
spare upper and lower BJ
tools for all above parts swaps

I agree with the above. Biggest and only concern would be tires. Can’t prepare for everything but tires is something you can prepare for.

 

Trade it in for a 2wd and pocket that extra money. Not really a point in owning a trd pro if you're not gonna pro-down.

 

Yup. That’s the problem with buying expensive “off-road vehicles” these days. The same goes with $50,000 ZR2s, $60,000 Rubicons and $80,000 Raptors.

It’s easy to get caught up in the frenzy, especially with those sexy lifts, flashy colors and fancy logos. But expensive prices make no sense on trucks that are supposed to essentially be trail beaters.

 

Unless you spend over $5K on a lift setup you shouldn't even take it on grass.

 

I did the same thing with my 18 Taco. Went down the Mojave road back in March right after I bought mine. Its amazing where a stock Tacoma can go.
