So.. I got my truck back from the dealer after having an electrical issue and now the issue is the key fob doesn't work to unlock or lock the truck. Only to turn the truck on and off with the push start. Now i hear a real bad whining noise coming from the engine bay checked out my serpentine belt and decided to just replace it. Well I replaced it and the whining continued and come to find out the ac compressor pulley is locking up. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated !!

So Purchased it from a used car dealer that installs theft protection/tracking devices on all the vehicles as a "mandatory thing" and its been on and off popping my ecu fuse and didnt realize it was the issue till I lost all power in the center console, head unit and power windows. Took it to the dealer and they said it fried the fuse block and ECU so i had to get that replaced and cost me 2 grand and now this issue with the AC Compressor.

That sucks. 2 grand... geez. So do you think the A/C pulley bearing is failing, causing friction while it should be freewheeling?

Did you get the aftermarket devices removed, at least?

Not sure the wiring issue is related to the compressor bearing failure. Sounds like unrelated issues. Get another estimate when you can.

There is a tsb for the serpentine belt, take it to the desert and let them run a diagnostic on it

The A/C was working fine before? Have you tried to mechanically un seize it?

I would be more concerned with the fact that their tracker fried your ecu, and you had to pay for it.

:annoyed: dang. Good luck op, ur 1/2 way through it. The a/c compressor seized so the belt is getting destroyed. If you have another car it's worth taking apart and replacing on ur own. A new serpentine belt is easy enough to replace on ur own too. But never seen an a/c comp go out on a 5 yr old vehicle.

You probably know this but the compressor pulley has a clutch on it that will lock and unlock. You sure that’s not what you’re seeing?

Don't know if you're a DIY kind of guy when it comes to this kind of thing but if it truly is the pulley on the compressor that should be a fairly easy job, assuming you don't have to remove the compressor to get the pulley off. Even if you do, removing a compressor isn't too difficult, but you'll have to have someone capture the freon and then recharge it after you put it back on. I had a similar problem with my Civic, and found someone selling a used OEM compressor for less than the cost of a new pulley.

There should be a tensioner somewhere. Release the tension on the belt, slip the belt off, then remove the clutch and the pulley. Again - the only complication could be that you may not have enough access to the pulley end of the compressor without removing the compressor itself.

Yeah I think that’s causing the friction, I’ve done services and everything properly and even a bit ahead of time but i think this weekend I’m gonna take a deeper look at it

Yeah I think it’s a totally unrelated issue and honestly I’d rather do the work myself
