Maybe it can only go to a business where people actually work.

Manufacturers navigation systems are so varied in quality and style/ease of use. Carplay was a major want for me because of this—I’d rather use my phone/map app of choice but still have the big screen.

I'm not really a fan of any of the stock navigations. Granted I also haven't used them much either. I have been really happy with Apple car play on my 20. And before that a phone mount with Apple Maps.

SSO hybrid bumper, Warn winch, RCI skid trilogy, RRW sliders, everything in the cheap/free mods thread, and of course the frame recall work.
    Selecting road types:
    1. Select NAVIGATION from the Home screen.
    2. Select SETTINGS.
    3. Select ROUTE SETTINGS.
    4. Choose or change road types to be used or excluded in route planning.

I can't seem to find that. Do I need to have a route loaded first?

Here’s a small suggestion. Use the map source of your choice. Plan your route “before” you get in the vehicle. This way you choose the route not the map software.
Among other things it lets you plan rest breaks (unless you have small children) and stops a points of interest.

As with so many things the 5 P’s helps avoid problem.

That works well until your preference is Google and your phone is dead or you have no service. In my case, I tend to use my in car one for longer trips so I don't roast the battery on my phone either through heavy use, or heavy use coupled by simultaneous charging.

I've had this problem with my Garmin GPS. It can only look for what you type in. If NORTH is part of the road name, It'll find it. If not, I leave it out, pick from the results. The problem lies with the way the address is listed.. some people don't know what their correct address actually is, also not uncommon for maps, road signs, etc. to be incorrect, incomplete. Garmin's been around long enough now, to have corrected most of it's earlier issues. It's man made though, so it will have flaws.

I get what your saying and that's a good tip. To it's credit my taco hasn't had this issue, or my phone...but man my magellan did. I would type in "xxx blah blah" and then choose the "west xxx blah blah" but it would take me to the east address instead...or south instead of north...did it several times, it was a mess

OP is right it’s awful. I drive all over the country for work and ditched it early on for Apple CarPlay which is awesome so NBD.

Ooo forgot about that too, I hardly use it and I didn't read op's first post fully apparently. I can't count the number of times I've double checked I put in the right address because it took me on some odd routes...I mean it gets me there to the right address but damn odd routes. I mean it gives you 2-3 options but I click the "fastest" and it's anything but. I generally use my phone. i also drive with my lights on so I can't see the damn screen anyway if there is any sunlight at all, brightness cranked up too

The only issue I have ever run into with it is difficulty in pinpointing the route for some rural addresses b/c policyholders will give you a street name but Apple wants the state hwy alias or vv. Usually if I can't find the place with Apple maps switching to Google maps works or again vv. Apple CarPlay can be run w/ either Apple or Google maps.

The Tacoma nav will get you there it just takes the long/odd way regardless of settings b/c I had set them all properly & double checked. I was initially suspicious but not certain when I first started using it b/c I rarely know the area I'm using it in but knew for sure when it told me a 19 hr drive from Providence to Ames would actually take 24. That is when I ditched it for good.

Because some people like me, don't want to use their phones for anything except as a PHONE. I admit that I did finally start using my camera feature on my phone to take pics, but that was only after I got a decent phone with an insanely great camera [Ulefone Armor 6E], but other than that, I use my phone as a phone.

My life rule is to never buy nav in a vehicle. They can never get it right and charge too much money for upgrades.
