If I were to guess, the guy who put it on used one of the metal attachments that go on wrenches and he went to town with it

What I found best for me on the 2.7 doesn't require lifting the truck. Crawl underneath from the passenger door and you'll be able to reach up to the filter with your left hand and also undo the drain plug without much fuss.

OP, if you're truly unsatisfied with where the oil filter is located- you can get this relocation kit on RockAuto, and just buy the lines (best option is using trans cooler lines) at a store (or online). They're extremely popular in the diesel world, as well as boosted applications.

This also, in theory will allow you to mount it at any angle you wish.

This is one location another member used for his relocation. You can trim the skidplate to avoid having to take it off every oil change, as well.

Sorry OP, but I have to ask.

Are you sure you are turning the filter in the correct direction to unscrew it?

    Righty Tighty, Lefty Loosey

It is easy to get confused when you are upside down.

if you just unscrew enough to let the oil drizzle down the side of the filter into the pan, and let it run out. another great option i haven't used is to poke a hole in the bottom of the filter to let the oil drain out of the filter then remove, some dude does this he uses a nail/knife to poke a hole with

I have seen people do this... sad as that is. Sort of like draining the transmission fluid while changing the oil.

Update : it was a success, I went back and bought a more heavy duty version of the filter wrench and it came off with great force. Never letting an quick lube place even glance at my truck again lol
