I debated this as well. I own a 2015 and I absolutely love it, but I rode it my buddies 2018 cement off-road and I loved it aswell! Both definitely have pros and cons. For me it just wasn’t financially smart to trade up to the new model for me. Still both great trucks. Just depends what fits you best :)!

There is a world of difference between 07 and 16+. I had an 06 OR and traded for a 16 sport 4x4. Don't listen to the haters. (It boggles my mind how people owning the same brand and model of a vehicle can hate on one another so badly because of the version they choose to own) All Tacomas are TACOMAS. They are all great. Upgrades and low miles, newer tech, interior etc are all nice to have. I would do what kite_325 said and get it how you want it. You won't regret it I garauantee it.

I began searching for a 2nd Generation Tacoma and even test drove a low mileage 2nd Generation, but found the prices weren’t far off from brand a new 3rd Generation Tacoma. I prefer new over used anyday and found the updated look and features of the 3rd Generation to be an added bonus. I think it’s worth it!

So I just traded in my 2012 for a 2016 and I'm pleased with my decision. Last year I looked at both the 3rd and 2nd gen and decided on the 2nd gen because of cost and the motor. The dimensions of both were similar so it was tough to justify the extra money for a refresh and and tech. I bought a high mile 2012 DCSB with MT. It was great and I really enjoyed the truck, no complaints. Why did I trade it in? I buy high mile vehicles since I do not drive them much, I have a company vehicle so they sit in the garage most of the time. After a few washes I noticed a lot of stone chips in the body from driving on dirt/gravel roads. Not a big deal. I started to replace the suspension recently and found the underside to be worse than the body. Everything I touched was very rusted (live in the rust belt) and seized. Figured I would cut my loss and look for a new truck if the trade in was reasonable. They gave me 19k and I paid 21k a year ago, pretty happy with that. I drove the 3rd gen and left the dealership. It was nice, but I wasn't sold. It had a few features that I missed from previous vehicles, sunroof and heat seats, but I really liked the 2012 taco. After I thought about it more I decided to move forward with the new taco and I do not regret it at all. The the updated interior is what really sold me. It is a huge upgrade over a 13 year old design. The truck rides a lot better (both were sport trim) and it seems more refined. I have no complaints with the motor yet. It is different than the 4.0, but not the worst thing in the world. I'm not sure about the transmission yet since I switched from a MT to AT. Normal driving seems fine, but when I first start the truck and pull out of the garage it seems to bog down when turning the wheel. Once warmed up it doesn't seem to do it.

Overall I'm happy with my choice. Having a newer modern version made the switch worth while.

Worth it! Unless you need to tow something big, or frequently have four adults in your truck, the smaller profile of the tacoma is great for sporting around town. I love mine!

The Flintstones are more entertaining than the Jetsons.

I like the look of the 3rd gen, but the lack of modern features I actually want on a new truck. Which would only be LED headlights, I don't find the new design too appealing. If Toyota made a 3rd gen RC, I'd buy one.

I don't see much of a difference between the current model vehicle, in this case the Tacoma, and previous generations. Other than the materials used to produce them.

I prefer new vehicles, because they are new.
The only downside to new is, new usually isn't better than what it has replaced.

Everywhere but the dealer service bay. Unless it's for a frame replacement.

2nd or 3rd its still a tacoma why do 2nd geners want to silo themselves? Baffling. I thought all Tacomas were part of same community. Seems a little childish to go to a certain gen forum and tell people their trucks suck. Just sayin

I thought everyone preferred the 1st gens over the 2nd and 3rds and like the Toyota pick up, over the Tacoma.

Because it’s a status thing for them. It isn’t about going out and using the truck.

There’s something special about those. They’re really the perfect enthusiast off road truck right now.

Not all that different from a 2nd gen IMHO.

Back in '15 when the 3rd gen was finally unveiled I was driving an '06. I was anticipating an entirely new platform so I wasn't all to thrilled with the direction they went. I know.. why mess with a recipe that sells? Am I wrong in thinking they couldn't come up with an even stronger seller? I feel it was rushed to stay competitive with the GM twins.

Hopefully the next generation will be new from the ground up. Lighter weight, better ergonomics and more attention to detail and quality like the 1st gen.
