You got TSBs for the V6, the V6 auto trans, the V6 manual trans, the V6 rear axle...what exactly are you getting for the extra $5-10k besides a close relationship with the dealer's service department?

    Ability to tow easier
    Ability to merge safer
    Ability to make passes
    Ability to haul more
All the while getting pretty much the same MPG.

Yup, you can do all that in the I4. But V6 sure makes it so much easier.

Whether this is worth the cost, is up to your intended usage. I honestly could’ve gone either way, probably. I was actually thinking the other day about how it’d be driving a I4, 5-sp DC in the SR trim. Gear it to 4.56 and add a Tacobox. It’d be a sweet little rig. But 2.7 with a manual isn’t available in a double cab. No way I would drive a 2.7 auto.

There's very little reason to buy the 2.7 unless one is just running around town picking up flowers at the nursery and two bags of compost. The Ridgeline is more truck like than a 2.7 Tacoma

I think my favorite part of this thread is how the OP hasn't been seen since the day he started this post.

He's probably out enjoying his 4cyl taco :rimshot:

I've seen a few threads and guys say they shift before 2500. Its flat in this part of Texas but damn if I'm below that she's not happy, 3000 is the sweet spot and it needs like 2000 from a stop to get it going

Well they were going to trade in Ashely's Forester, but they just installed new head gaskets so it can get to the peninsula trail without picking up some old dude

I'll have to experiment more. Just going by feel I think I'm over-revving if I go higher than 2500. Must just be coming from a GTI which was so smooth.

The white Taco in my profile pic is the girlfriends 4cyl SR, and MGM is my TRD Sport v6. Both amazing trucks. Hers is smooth as silk driving around, my lunges, up shifts hard, and downshifts hard. I have never had an issue driving her truck merging or doing whatever, but it is nice when im in my truck and have that extra reserve of power for when you are merging onto the interstate and you just have to be ahead of the person in the next lane over.

Neither of us tow, but we both frequent home depot for our projects.
She gets almost 30 mpg, I get almost 25mpg.
Her 2.7 will last well beyond what a typical gas engine will, my 3.5 ????????????? Who knows

Jcyr and u wish u could ride like this.

Sorry I thought you were talking about the v6. I revved my 2nd gen 2.7 higher when I had it, it seemed to like the abuse. I'm in the mid-west so pretty flat.

The 2.7's red line is 5500 rpm, it was designed to turn that fast to produce it's rated power.
I had a 2wd Toyota pickup I built a 22R blueprinted engine for, the machine shop guy said it was safe to 8000 rpm. When I was in a hurry I often revved it to 8000 rpm without problems.
