If your boat is within the towing limit of the truck then your truck is technically not underpowered for the application.

Should not of said underpowered but very close it definitely sounds like its hurting the truck no overheating of course but that extra power would give me peace of mind for the unknown future

My truck has 160ish HP as a 4 banger..stock. Same as my 1984 Camaro had back in the day with a V8 haha.

I do think it's geared way tall for the Hp, it's not built to go fast but it's geared so you can which means it's not built to accelerate. My last 4 wound 4k at 60 (4spd) and this one is at 2k in 5th and still only 2500 in 4th.

The gearing is questionable with the 5M. The jump between first and second is too much. Almost 1500rpm. 1st is too tall already. Id rather a short first and shorter and closer second and third. 4th and 5th are pretty closely spaced.

I think they make some Limited edition Tacos like the 4Runner 1st gen has a 7800lb towing capacity

Don't get my wrong I absolutely love my truck and I use it like a truck just about every day, but personally I feel the 2.7 is underpowered for my area and for my needs

My daily driver is 2.7, great gas mileage. My moms Limited 98 is down the road I borrow sometimes. The F350 twin turbo diesel quad cab 4x4 dually is left at shop for towing 30'ers.

At the end of the day when your arguing against yourself in bed at night between the l4 vs V6, its all about your lifestyle. For the longest time I really considered selling the truck and even put it up for sale. But I took the truck out on on a trip and the truck performed very well with almost 250lbs in the bed and an RTT. The truck proved itself out on the trails and in the more difficult parts. I personally love the truck and love the engine, and yes it is underpowered but I am still getting 18-20 on the freeway:thumbsup:

I'm getting great gas mileage I average 23-25mpg on a 20 mile commute to work one way, again I love the truck itself but I personally wish I went with the v6

Great gas mileage, I just do alot of driving and find myself almost pressured to pull over for the cars behind me because it lacks that (get up and go) response when encountering any sort of Inclination.

I never considered the 4cyl because it is NOT the 22r that will run for 500k miles and 18-20 on the highway is not that great at all. I log the miles and how many gallons I dump into it and do the math myself.....overall I'm averaging 20, that's around town driving and with 250 lbs of dirt bike and gear.

I would have thought that the 4cyl would have a lost better mpg. (stock tires & not all over the gas or brake)

    Previously 2005 2TR FE: 750 K miles.

    Currently: 2018 2TR FE: 60 K miles. Heavier than 2005.

My vehicles are work trucks. I do subcontract deliveries for a living. Megadurability and simple maintenance requirements are the deciding factors here.

    YMMV.

I do find that the Limited gets much the same gas mileage on highway as my truck but not as good.

Yeah I have no doubt in my mind that the current 2.7 can go 500k miles no problem.

I currently average 20mpg per tank, that's about 50/50 highway/city. That's with heavier AT tires, airdam delete, front recovery point, skid plate, bed rack and rear tow hitch. Stock I was avereging 23mpg, and got almost 25 on long highway trips.

1st in the 5MT is actually 4.22 I believe. This is better than the 6MT which is 3.98. The difference here is that the 5MT has a 3.90 diff and the 6MT has a 4.30. The 5 and 6 should accelerate similarly in 1st.
