I traded my '05 TRD Sport Prerunner DC with 125,000 miles that I bought new in 2005 for a 2016 TRD Sport DC. It was definitely worth it to me. It did take a bit of getting used to with the new engine/transmission, though.

    I went from an 06 SR5 V6 4WD AC to the 2016 SR5 4WD V6 DCSB. Loved the 06 and loving the 16. 06 had 150K on it.

Considering how much more you can get out of your current truck I would just keep it.

The tech stuff is cool, but it's still just a truck to get you from point a to point b. But hey it's your money.

Buy a 2017 in August. The new model year may have some bugs worked out that currently exist on the 2016 model.

I went from an 06 to the 16...Both are TRD Sports 4X4.... I only traded cuz I was getting tired of the color (Silver) and went with the Inferno...The 06 got me Top $ as no rust, etc.... Nice new tech. on the 16... I'm in love with it...it's MORE powerful then the 4.0 IMHO... the tranny requires that "You" learn it's new ways... once you have done that, you will love it too...that is "after" you fill the freakin' tranny properly...!!

Keep the 2006. The 2016 looks 40% a 2nd Gen, 30% a caricature of a Hot Wheels/Tonka truck, 20% as if was designed by Homer Simpson - the other 10%?....I'll let others pipe in.

I'm new here on TW and new to owning a Taco but I've been reading a ton here on TW and have been seeing a ton of complaints about the 16 tacos and a ton of "traded my 16 taco" threads going on.

As far as the topic at hand I've had an 06 dcsb TRD or, 2012 TRD sport dclb, and now a dclb TRD sport 4x4. I personally feel like the new engine and transmission are fine when you turn on the ect pwr button. If you want a new truck I think you'll be happy with the upgrades. If you don't need one or care about the new tech you're fine sticking in your 2nd gen. The tech upgrades are really nice over the 2nd gen trucks and I think the ride is better with the stronger frame.

For every complaint, you obviously have 100s of other people enjoying their truck without issues and have no reason to hop on the forum.
But yes, some of the issues that have come up are critical.
Take a peak at what's happening in the Colorado/Canyon forum.

OP.. if you live in the great down south, where Tacos do not rust out... then keep it (after a thorough frame inspection)... the 06's were bad for the frame rust.... that's why I got rid of mine.... Salty north and poor steel = failure.....

Check the frame and keep it if it's good for many miles...!
