    2012 Access Cab Off Road
Hi all, first time poster and Tacoma buyer, so be easy on me!

Spotted via drive by at the local Toyota dealer a black 2012 access cab off road long bed, 148k miles. Everything stock as far as I can tell, new brakes and tires all around, and all new ebrake. Clean carfax 1 owner with meticulous maintenance records. Previous owner did oil changes every 5k miles.

Truck seems solid, no weird noises, engine or ride roughness, starts up fine, 4x4 and all off-road gizmos work. Interior is very clean.

Been negotiating with the sales guy, talked it down to $16k from $17k with front and rear weather tech mats, and tonneau cover. Also trading in a 2019 F150 42k miles for $30k, with $22k left on the loan.

I am worried of course about rust, I live in upstate New York rust capital of the world. Undercarriage pics attached. The frame was inspected when the dealer got it and passed according to the sales guy and the carfax. Maybe try to negotiate in underbody rust proofing?

Price is pretty good, wife does loans, punched into their calculator thing and this one is booked at being worth about 20k to the bank (took a few liberties, assumed automatic and had towing pkg). Looks like it checks out, is it part of the frame recall? Just make sure your qualifications for said recall are satisfied, not sure if you want to layer rust proofing over top of the stuff thats been accumulating over the years... My .02

So the bank uses a calculator for their loan to value, 100% LTV is 20k for them

Looks like a nice truck to me. And the rust looks like not much of a concern in my opinion. Also if me, I would rather wire wheel brush those rust spots myself then neutralize then DIY few cans of rubberized undercoat. The dealer would most like just spray undercoat right over the top. Just my thoughts others may chime in. Just do a little research KBB etc. If fair price go for it. Welcome to TW

I just bought an '11 TRD OR access cab, v6, tow, tonneau, all the traction controls and no real modifications, 100k even for 17.4. I had to wait a week for the Toyota dealership to replace the frame. I really didn't think the frame looked bad at all prior to replacement, maybe a quarter of the rust in your pics. I'm surprised they didn't just apply the crc spray on it. Maybe they get compensated well from Toyota for the replacements?
Anyways, sounds like a good price on the truck. If everything works as should and you are happy with it, I say get it.

    Edit:
What does the dealership say about the frame? IDK if '12 falls under the warranty (I assume it does). I didn't think a dealership could sell a vehicle of their make if it has an open safety recall until they address it.

Syracuse area. Ok, CNY haha! The Toyota dealer inspected the frame and it passed. I'm a little leery about the same dealership that's selling it doing the inspection through.

Honestly that frame is worse then my dads 08 when it failed inspection with a hole in it.

    Pass.

Heres how big the hole was

But this was forming up by the passenger catalytic converter. Id look there as that spot goes the quickest.

My brother and I are waiting for the warranty frame scaling and under coating. Dealer has the new machine but employees haven't been trained yet. You may be eligible too.

If you are eligible and frame doesn't pass they will replace for free. At least in New England.

Yeah thats everywhere. 12 years from date of first use with the 05-2010's. My dads truck sat at the dealer for 2 months until it got a new frame. His truck came from upstate NY then somehow made its way down here to NC.
