Financially NO. If you already have a high rate why would you want an additional haircut for some bed space?

Another 1' of bed won't help anything at all. If 5' of bed with the tailgate down won't get 'er done you need a trailer. The fold out bed extenders are game changers. I bought a Tacoma to have a small truck. They make no sense when they are as long as a 1/2 ton crew cab. And with the very limited payload the 1st thing I did 12 years ago when I downsized from a 1/2 ton was buy a 10'X6' trailer. It isn't just about the volume of the smaller beds, it is payload. I can carry more firewood in my trailer than I could in the bed of a 3/4 ton truck with an 8' bed. And do it easier.

If you're talking about a AC with the 6' bed I could live with it as long as you don't need the room for passengers. If you're thinking DCLB you'll be better off buying an extended cab 1/2 ton with a 6.5' bed. Price is about the same, fuel mileage is the same, overall length is within 2-3" of the same, the rear seat is actually usable (more room than a DC tacoma), towing and payload is considerably more, and while the bed is only 6" longer it is considerably wider and deeper. With the tailgate down you have almost 9' of space for cargo because the tailgate is a lot taller.

What do you haul that requires the long bed?

I would look into refinancing and like others have said lower the tailgate and get the bed extender if you really need it. if you need to haul something that doesn't fit in the bed, just rent a uhaul trailer that way you don't have to worry about storing a trailer. IMO to get a long bed Taco, I would rather get a Tundra or F150.

Fiscally conservative side says NO, don’t do it.

YOLO says, do it now. Taco’s hold their value. Trade it in, get the LB, and move on with life instead of weeks and years of remorse every time a LB passes by.

The thought of having a LB has occurred to me. That being said I personally would NEVER trade in just because of that reason alone.

I bought a 2017 manual DCSB. The decision drove me crazy. I dislike short beds but wanted manual.

Long story short, I traded it in after a couple months and got a 17DCLB. I’m so happy I did. Every time I looked at my DCSB, it looked weird. The hood is practically longer than the bed and the area where the bed meets the cab looks poorly designed, almost an afterthought. Just my opinion.

I lost a bit of money but worth it. Love my newer truck. If you want a long bed, just get one.

If your interest rate is high, due to your lack of credit, I'd said that would be a hard NO. You don't need to take a loss on a nearly new vehicle, and compound the issue.

Interest rates have gone up since 2017 at least prime has, unless of course you're credit has improved don't count on a better rate. Plus you are starting over again and losing any equity you built into your current truck for essentially the same truck, take it from someone who's traded a few in for "whatever reason" I tried to tell myself, its not really worth it. I'd consider refinancing first but if you're unhappy so be it. I've had 2 DCLBs, it sucks to live with on a day to day basis.

Maybe I should refinance, I know I can get a lower rate. Then maybe I should look into a shell, that should help with my camping gear. If I am still unhappy maybe then I should look into a long bed or a full size truck. I do love this truck that I have, I've got to say I'd be sad to see it go.

I learned to improvise for random stuff like that. Good luck.

Smart man, I think all of us at some point have wished we had a different color, config, options, etc. Not worth it in the long run. Your future self will thank you.

I went from a DCSB 4x2 to a DCLB 4x4. Really like both of them:

DCSB for around town and trail exploration. It has a MUCH tighter turning radius (maybe the 4x2 helps there?).
DCLB is better for towing our 3,500# camp trailer. Less bounce on the bumps and less trailer "wagging the dog".

Not sure the extra foot of space is all that valuable - loving the bed extender idea here.

I agree that the trade might not make economic sense. Still kick myself now and then for the cash outlay - we save up and buy outright rather than get loans - so I felt the $$ spend.

If you need a bigger bed, just get a tundra. They got some crazy good interest rate incentives on new ones

I like my short bed but wish I had gotten a long bed due to my 4 person RTT. It sticks out past the back of the truck about a foot.
I know I can put it on a shell but don’t want a shell.
If I was presented with an opportunity to get a long bed without too big a hit, id probably do it.

taco-cement.jpg taco-blk.jpg Long beds are not easy to find. I just drove 340 miles from So IL to So Tennessee to trade my short bed for a long bed. Both were '19 TRD OffRoads. My short bed was also black, which I did not care for at all either. You said yours is TRD Sport. There are some used long beds out there. Ya gotta look hard though. Get on autotrader.com and search Tacomas. That's how I found mine. You can just keep widening the search radius until you see some options.

Love my DCLB. The short beds just don’t look right IMO. I wanted a truck, not a sort of truck :D

Wouldn’t even consider a short bed, needed long bed for carrying glass panels (lay them flat) and longer materials like lumber.
To me the DCLB looks more like a truck than the DCSB, and functions more like one aswell. Plus I don’t need the shorter wheelbase, don’t do enough offroading to warrant it and wasn’t looking at a TRD Pro trim.
Only downside to the limo is parallel parking in the city :(
