I have an 08 prerunner, and a friend who has i think a 2013 trd sport. They offered to sell me their stock shocks (they immediately upgraded). Would it be worth it? If I had more money I would buy some better ones, but really Im wondering if they would be an improvement or not. Im guessing they would be a super fair price although was not told one yet. Thanks folks!

I wouldn't bother personally. The 5100 shocks would be a better option for you.

I wouldn't pay more than 10$ for the set unless yours are blown up and your truck goes down the road like a pogo stick. the trd's do imo make you feel a tad more stable, but that is really worthless unless you just want to feel more bumps. or be able to absorb the bigger hits slightly better.

again, just my opinion, they are a "feel" thing. I doubt they would improve track-times on or off road.

To answer your question: Yes, his shocks will be an improvement over yours due to less wear/tear and TRD shocks but not anywhere a larger improvement than upgrading to Bilsteins 5100s. If you are getting them cheap($60>less) and just using these until upgrading to 5100's down the road, then I would get them. You can sell yours on CL to recoup the cost.

x2. The front ones alone are about $170 through Wheeler's. I don't blame the OP for going the TRD route if he don't plan on a lift and stay frugal.

    Is that only one shock?

It looks like the front with the adjustable c-clip.

My set of 5100s was about 375 for all 4, and it was a great upgrade!

Like stated above if money is an issue, you can get these for 50 bucks, and you are willing to put in the wrench time I would go for it.

If you need to have someone put the in for you (front ones are a bit tricky-back ones a piece of cake) then I would hold off till you put in a substantial upgrade (5100s or better)

Even the 5100s aren't a huge step forward in performance, but when i changed out my stock "TRD Billsteins" at 60k miles 2 of them were shot. So some fresher ones on your ride might make a difference.

    Good Luck!
