    1. Love Raptor lights. Seems most either love or hate them with few in-between.

    3. I hate chrome, but I won't ever plasti dip anything either. Luckily there is a ton of after market stuff for these trucks so I've either done black or color paint matched my stuff.

    4. I find wheels really set the truck. Out of all the mods out there some nice looking wheels and tires is probably one of the easier ones and looks the best.

Seems I'm in direct opposition of your opinions, but at least we agree enough on some things to have both bought a Taco.

When does being a popular mod suddenly become "unoriginal and overplayed" and how does it being popular also make it dumb? Would that include lifting, wheel and tire size changes as well? Is adding mudguards or a tonneau cover overplayed and dumb? It would seem so according to your logic.

Full disclosure I have a real Pro grill that's been installed since Dec 2016 long before there were many Pro's on the road. It certainly wasn't overplayed then so when did it become dumb to have one? I don't have any Raptor lights though, never interested in that popular mod.

Let’s remember what this thread is about. Mods that YOU have done that YOU regret. Not what others have done that you think is pointless.

The first set of aftermarket radio knobs I tried never really worked for me, they were too small. The later set were much better.

887 springs from 885s ended up being a wash in the expense and effort. I think I only gained a half inch that's not really noticeable. Next time I'll go with 6112s when it's time to replace the 5100s. The height max is only 2 inches at the full clip setting but it's a much better shock and spring set in the long run.

It's a matter of perspective and opinion. Ours are different, and I respect that. You should too.

Since you asked - I don't think any functional mod can be overplayed. Things like tonneau covers, mudguards, wheels/tires, and lifts usually serve a purpose in enhancing the useability of the truck. They serve a useful purpose.

Appearance mods are in a category of their own, because they serve no useful purpose except to appeal to the eyes.

Don't try to define my "logic" if you think purpose-built mods and appearance mods are on the same level. They are not.

Anything can become overplayed when it is repeated too much. It happens to every popular song by the time it has been played on the radio for the 10,000th time. Just because it is popular doesn't mean it can't be overplayed. The Pro grille is no different. Credit to you for being among the first.

I am really impressed with the stock radio. I get some really far stations fairly clear. I am surprised since it is just that little shark fin antenna.

The only mod. Have done that is maybe on the edge is the bed lighting. I installed and ran the wire up to the battery with a temporary switch in cab. I have decided to move the switch to the access cubby in the bed so I can turn it on where I need it. Too cold right now but it was over the top to start with.
Positive I have a 12v 20 amp connection if I decide to add a compressor or power converter.

I LOVE my ditch lights when in the mountains... especially in Mexico. I get caught still driving to camp at night on the mountain roads and no shotgun rider sometimes. With the "ditch" lights I can see the wall edge and stay close.... sometimes I can see the drop too. ;) They are actually a life saver :)

In other words your popular mods aren't dumb or overplayed because they are functional (debatable) yet popular appearance mods can be overplayed and dumb like adding a Pro grille.

    Ok bud.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
It's unfortunate that when someone starts a thread asking what YOU (the truck owner) has done that was ultimately concluded to be useless or stupid, the posts wind up focused on mods that others have done. A bit of straying from the OP's intent.
While I happen to agree with TacoMamba35's comment, it's definitely off point.
    Sarcasm doesn't help either.

I regret getting weld on sliders. Should've gotten bolt ons in hindsight. A pain to ever repaint, and if I ever do bang them up, I'll have to cut them off to replace them. And the weld plates may not even allow me to put on a set of bolt ons without grinding them down flat again. A real PITA if you actually use your sliders as rock sliders. On the plus side, the frame is a lot stiffer now with the extra support. Very very very small noticable difference in ride quality as a result.

I also regret getting LT tires. It made the ride way too harsh for a daily driver imo. It was even a bigger difference than adding the 700# Kings I put on.

I will agree that E-rated are a bit excessive. I have the stmaxx as well, and while they're definitely a harsher ride, they make up for it in a bunch of ways. My biggest reason for going 10ply (ok, modern tires aren't technically 10 plys, but 10ply equivalent) was the thickness of the sidewall which adds quite a bit to puncture resistance. Additionally, the stiffness of the sidewall let's me dump down to 8-10psi without being worried about the sidewalls getting so flexy that I debead a tire. I HAVE done that in the past with other tires. I have yet to have it happen (fml going to be tomorrow, watch) with the E's.

Unfortunately the things are so forking heavy that the only way to minimize their rape of my mog is to run them on the highway at ~50psi, oh well, I knew what I was getting into.

The worst mod I have done is the light bar behind the grill. I have used it a total of 3 times for no more than 30 seconds. Took it out today.

The only purchases I regret were the Amber XB Fogs and OEM Pro Grille. The Amber looks really cool but doesn't do much else. The Pro Grille came off after the TSS TSB and hasn't gone back on since. I don't want insurance problems on a truck I'm paying on and I also like the black bezel on 2019 grille. just my .02

oh, I also got a cigarette lighter for the interior as a backup fire starter only to realize it's not wired to be an actual lighter.

We used to put S2000 antennas on our 2000+ Celicas back in the day. Looked way better than the gigantic antennae that they came with.

I would still pick a stubby antenna over the .50 cal bullet antennas that I'm seeing advertised all over the place since I started looking up Tacoma mods. Haha

I try to make all of my mods non destructive meaning I can 100% revert back to factory. Although I wish I had kept my stock wheels in case I ever sell. So I guess it’s not 100%
