    Another consideration is that the higher the lift, the more angle you will have in your drive shafts between the differential and transfer case. Increased angle means increased wear unless you upgrade the U-joints. Everyone here is correct. Bigger tires will kill your gas mileage for 2 reasons-1. effectively lower (numerically) your gear ratio making it harder to get the truck moving. 2. increase the rotational mass due to increase tire weight. It will also throw off the accuracy of your speedometer (will read "slower" than actual speed). Lastly, a "mud" tire doesn't necessarily perform as well as a "snow" tire. They are designed with different rubber compounds and tread design as mud and snow have different traction characteristics. Whatever you choose to do, be sure to check with the experts...and there seem to be plenty of knowledgeable people on his forum with "real-word" experience. Good luck.

    you don't need 38" tires and lift. Just get some dedicated soft compound snows in OEM size or if you are in a state the allows, pick up a set of studded snows. problem solved.
