Would a TRD cat back exhaust from a 3rd gen work on a 2nd gen?

I think it would work fine. If i were to do it again I wouldn't waste the extra money on the TRD exhaust, I'd just get something aftermarket. But if you want the TRD or get one for a good price I think your idea will work just fine

I'd try that coupler idea before the expander. I think the flared tip may work perfectly for what you're trying to do - great idea! Would be good to take some measurements first of course to confirm. Regarding the expanders... I've only heard bad things about the hobbyist grade ones and that to do it correctly you really need a pro level, hydraulic one. I feel like I tried one at some point but maybe I'm getting confused with watching youtube videos on it, lol. But I wouldn't even go down that road.

I want the factory muffler, but the 2nd gen assemblies are on a forever back order. So I’m putting a take off 23 exhaust on. Don’t want the extra noise from a aftermarket system.

I agree, I don’t think I want to mess with a cheap parts store rental tool anyhow. I’ll update in a few weeks after I get everything rounded up and installed.

Damn haha, apparently they’re all on back order from Toyota. 2nd and 3rd gen’s.

Try finding one that’s not rusted out. Don’t even think of getting a new one.

Of course not. Let me get that exhaust off your hands for 75 bucks.

Would anyone know if there would be an issue using a muffler / exhaust from a 6 cylinder Tacoma on a 4 cylinder 2.7 Tacoma, as far as performance goes. I realiaze there is a bit of modding to do. Just looking for quiet set up vs my worn out muffler.
    Thanks
