I love the new Tundra but it's just not practical for my needs.

This statement would be correct if we weren't in a Global Economic Recession. Speculation and OPEC are pushing up oil prices today, not demand or supply.

Any way you look at it, a few things emerge that make full size impractical but a want anyway.
Consider less people drove them 50 yrs. ago, they were utility. Once they started selling slowly they pushed them more. People drive farther now, mostly by choice, but social influence made it look desireable to live in the coutry/ work in the city( notice how these benefit oil and car companies, they do influence but we choose). Then there is that "step up to the plate" attitude pushed by corporate again and so many buffoons who buy into it.

Now ask again what you want to drive when fuel hits $5 , I have the money + less miles so it didn't hurt me , but it did effect me, driving a diesel at $4. But others werent so lucky.
In a Tacoma, I get about 19 city/27 summer hiway/ 24 winter hiway in miles per gallon(I'm a half ass hypermiler). Consider the silverado diesel I had at 12 city and 22 freeway. 2/3rd of my driving is city so I saved quite well. At $5 gallon I'll still be hunting /skiing /and hiking, while others will be going thru 2008 all over but worse. Glad I bike to work sometimes, hell its just 4 miles.

I drive 3/4 ton and 1 ton + at work , it gets costly. I like full size too, don't get me wrong. Co-workers told me they spend $300 or more on fuel with 2 suv's (wive's), even if 1 is v-6.

So I guess my point is buy what you need, some of you contract... no brainer, buy what you want and face sucking the tit and being subservient to OPEC. I watch people going 75 in a 65 here in Oregon , n/p to me, but they have no right to complain about fuel costs when speeding, especially when fuel as $4.50, with unused racks on the roof etc.

I'd bet 80% of the full size truck owners that don't work out of it would do just fine in a Tacoma access cab, thats my point.

(Crap! I think this is my longest post, talk about a sunday sermon)

Did consider a tundra before buying another taco.
But unless you haul 4x8 sheets of plywood often, the bigger truck was really not needed at all.
Its just more of the tacoma, but also more money, more gas, less parking space

I thought about the Tundra. I was drawn to the Tacoma because...

-It fits in my garage. The Tundra won't. I hate shoveling snow off cars.
-Wife felt more comfortable driving the Tacoma.
-Tacoma fits better on the off road trails in Colorado.
    -Easier to park.

The Tundra was tempting for the extra payload and bigger bed.... but I figured I only need the extra room a few times a year... so I'll just make two trips to home depot. I don't tow anything more than 5k pounds. The gas mileage had no effect on my decision because I drive 4 miles each way to work. I ride my bike to work in the summer.

No. Way too big for me. Too expensive (initial cost + poor MPG + insurance). The Tacoma is even more than I need most of the time. Perfect fit for me. Not sure why anyone would need anything bigger unless they did some serious towing.

Too many people use trucks as non-work grocery getters as it is. Never understood that...
