Would I be over paying for this truck?

$20k + tax for a 2010 Access Cab 4cyl Manual 4wd with 65k miles. It is from a Toyota dealer but no factory warranty left. It does come with some warranty though. But that doesn't do much good because I hear used car warranties usually don't cover much. And this particular dealer is 8 hours away, so it's not much use to us.

This truck is for the little lady. This is exactly what she has been looking for. She only wants the magnetic gray and it has to be manual (don't ask my why), so it's been quite a challenge to find one. We also have to drive 8 hours to get it. Ugh.. women!

20k seems like a lot for this truck compared to what else could be had for the same money.

Seems kinda high for a 4cyl, if it was a V6 then it might be closer to fair. Then again, it is a Toyota dealership so it doesn't seem unreasonable comparatively.

Your lady demands a manual trans? She's a keeper for sure.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
If it were TRD with SR5 that would be fair per NADA. But if it's just a base model $17k would be a more realistic number.

Yea, it is right around KBB value when I checked, but I don't know if KBB prices are inflated for Toyota's or not. They came down a 1k off of sticker.

lol. She is something else, that is for sure! ;)

It is a SR5. Sorry forgot that part. No TRD package though. Is that offered in 4cyl?

So it does have cruise, painted bumper, fenders, intermittent wipers (wtf that's a luxury these days?)

TRD was a rare(er) option on 4cyl first gens but I'm 99.99999% sure it was never offered on 2nd gen 4cyl Tacomas.

    Something like this? https://www.carmax.com/cars/toyota/tacoma/2013/13057787

If so I would say the price is fair but far from great. It's well worth the money though if it makes your lady happy.

I agree. Seems to be fair, but nothing to run home bragging about. And I'm pretty sure it will make her happy, so I guess I'll stop getting hung up on the price.

Does not appear to have had the leaf springs or seat belt recalls done however. Should I negotiate that prior? Or just say screw it? She can have the overloads off my truck and I don't think anyone will be using the rear seat belts.

Bull bar, but more to come
Except the second you buy that truck you are gonna be upside down on it. If you are cool with that, that's fine, but I owe 10k more than my truck is worth and it pisses me off every time I look at my bill. I LOVE THE TRUCK AND SHE WILL TOO, but beware of the value drop after you drive it away. DO NOT finance a warranty either those are just a way to get more money out of you and these trucks are stupid easy to fix/maintain. I would keep looking for a better deal or talk them down some. The dealer I bought my 08 from in 2013-14 gave it to me for 28k and just offered me 15k for it, probably so they can get me to finance a new one and rape someone else on the used one again. So im keeping it forever. Go private party sale w/independent inspection, and private financing. You'll pay a little more than its worth because of interest but save yourself a headache when you go to pay the truck off.

They should perform any recalls before they sell it to you, or at least schedule you to bring it in to get them done asap. Recalls don't expire so there shouldn't be any issue getting any of them taken care of assuming they weren't already done.

Seems a little high - I'd try and talk them down to $17500. I sold my 2009 with 100K and some nice farkles for $15,500 - apparently that was too low (sold in a day) but seemed fair to me.

And any lady that wants a Tacoma - and a manual at that - is a keeper. So yeah, go for it.

    Thank you all!

I am going to try and get them down a bit more. If they won't budge, oh well. She will look awesome in it!

That seems about right. I don't think too low, just super popular trucks.
We actually had a deal lined up with our local bank branch manager. She had him down to 11,500 on the 09 with 136k miles. (needed about 2k of work @ shop rates done). We paid to have our mechanic look at it. Went back and she offered 11k, he said he'd think about it (rather than just saying no.. 11,500 is the lowest). Asked for a copy of the mechanic invoice. She gave it to him (wtf?!?!). Then when she called him back a few hours later, he tells her that he has another party interested and if it falls through he will sell it to her. Scum bag just used the mechanic invoice to further convince the next buyer. So pissed about that still!

I honestly thought about letting the regional manager know about the situation, as it cost us money out of our pocket. But it's a really small town and I don't want to be that guy. Besides I went to school with one of the girls there and I'd hate for her to catch flack over something that doesn't even involve her.

I will definitely let her know of your guy's approval of her manual trans ;)

Well it was a 4cyl manual, which while coveted by a rare few (like OP's lady), is pretty much on the bottom of demand and book value.

Having a cash buyer in a day and not having to deal with lowballers and tire kickers was worth a premium to me, so there's that. And I'm a pay it forward kind of guy. I got a great deal on my 2015 TRD and had a fat down payment so it all worked out in the end.

You can add a premium to the price because you actually found a used Tacoma in a configuration that your lady likes. Forget that it's 8 hours away.. you are lucky to find it anywhere. That doesn't mean you should pay $20k, I am just saying to take it into consideration how hard you looked and *finally* found what she likes. Hope that makes sense. E.g. I paid more than market value for my used sports car because it has *exactly* the color and equipment that I wanted. I had to have it.
