I was taking off my air manifold and as I took it off this came out and can't find where this came from, would greatly appreciate any information on where this belongs.

Thanks. Yes I saw a post where this has been a problem with others. Mine broke like the others. Now what I want to know is where I post to have this counted and hopefully is made as a recall. Thanks so much greatly appreciated. I'm praying that I don't have to but the whole manifold intake.

Take it to a mechanic or the dealer if you can't fix it yourself.

so then you already know what it is?

also, the forum and recalls are like facebook and national elections. they're entirely unrelated, and have no bearing on the outcome of either.

if you want to try to support a recall, you need to file a report with the NHTSA. but it generally needs to represent a safety issue somehow, something that i don't believe ACIS valve failure will do. it just makes for a more sluggish motor, not a motor running failure.

@Phlogiston the only thing I see to do is locate a new whole intake manifold and from the old one hope that a piece of plastic didn't fall in and mess up other parts in the engine.

Some here call it the flapper. It is the other parts, like what is showing in someones hand, that operate it that break
You will be very lucky if nothing broke off and fell into the valves'
Why did you take off your intake in the first place?

Oh it is a definite safety issue. If the lose part when it occurs goes into the valves while in motion , that sounds like safety problems. The picture I'm including is what I'm talking about that can go into the valves. I've seen other posts where ppl say they have to repair the whole engine because of this fail. Thanks for the link.

I was told that the symptoms I was having looks to be injectors and I have a injector cleaner machine. went ahead to remove it. To notice the flap come out from the intake. That lit a bulb of curiosity

but historically, most companies won't take action over potentials. you would need to have a documented engine failure due to the ACIS valve parts for that to really start counting towards a recall.

Well if one has had this incident with repairs documented and I make report of having had the same fault or part failure just that it didn't get to the point of engine failure but can prove that from the same weak point I did my repair and enough people doing the same as me (making the report) it has to make a difference.

I was sent this link and if we stay deligent and inform everyone in the forum about how to go about it, it will be a recall. Zero doubt

Come Monday best believe I'm putting in that work (call) and I will post it her on what was the outcome

Very, very unlikely. For perspective, Toyota sold 198124 Tacomas in 2017 and we can safely assume those are all third gens and not leftover 2015 second gens. Let’s say only half of those are 3.5s with this potential problem and all of them drove 10k miles per year (less than the national average) in the seven years since sold. If I didn’t suck at math that’s 6,934,340,000 miles on just 2017 model year V6 Tacomas. If this was a large cause of engine failure we’d know.

I recall reading a thread about this. :typing:

Everything you need is included in this kit. It's up to you to figure out where the pieces go.

I need to get one of those kits. Could come in handy at work every time someone's looking for the one part that's not in stock
