Taking my truck to a local place in the morning to have spark plugs, oil, and coolant changed. Being that it's not a toyota dealership, should they still know the spark plug spacing specs?

There are DIY threads on all these subjects....my dealer wanted 175 to change the damn plugs alone!

Thanks. Got it guys. This isn't a dealer I'm going to it's just a little mom and pop place around town but they are good honest folks. They will just be supplying the labor as I had already purchased everything to do it myself with the help of a friend of mine that's a certified Toyota mechanic. We just can't get on the same schedule and I need it done before next weekend. Thanks fellas.

When they order the plugs for your specific vehicle from their parts supplier they should come pre-gapped to the correct measurement. The supplier also have software which provides that same information if they want to check.
    No worries

Should being the operative word. Always err on the side of caution and check yourself, otherwise...

The gap is also on the little engine EPA sticker under the hood. My last comment is if the shop doesn't have the knowledge/resources to find the gap, you need to find someone else.

They are one of, if not the most, reputable shop in my area. I just wasn't sure if tacomas were a special breed as far as the gap goes and all other vehicles the gap maybe didn't matter as much. As you can tell I'm no mechanic. Just hit 105k miles (purchased at 99k miles back in March) and I'm trying to get everything replaced little by little. Next will be brakes and hopefully they'll be ready to start this leaf spring recall so my trailer ball doesn't scrape the ground when I pull a trailer lol...

I'd bet that 99.9% of the shops take the plugs out of their little containers and install them without ever checking the gap.

If gaps aren't right what problems would it cause?

You're spending too much time thinking this is a problem. If you are truely concerned, buy a set of plugs and a gap tool, set the gaps yourself and hand them to the shop to replace.

Plugs isn't that hard to do either - little labor intensive, but the writeups i've seen it looks a lot easier than the dang 4.3L chevy I had in my last truck. Body lift was the only thing that helped me there.
