Hello, although i am not all that good at diagnosing engine problems I am concerned that i might have a clutch problem. I have noticed that when traveling down the road, in most any gear except 1st and 2nd, that if i accelerate the rpms shoot way up as if i had pressed in the clutch slightly. Sometimes it happens and sometimes not. This is something new in the last couple of weeks. My truck is a 2002 with 180000 miles. Still on the first clutch. Any thoughts on this issue?

Yep. Sounds like you're due for a new clutch disc, pressure plate and TO bearing

You'll probably want to resurface the flywheel as well....unless you can verify that it's healthy

Hey thanks for the info, any idea what that might cost at the average car garage? Sounds like something i should let someone with experience deal with.

If you've had no real experience with such things...I would let a shop do it.

Just make sure they actually replace the 3 components I mentioned. Also, if they remove or replace the flywheel, it's usually a good idea to replace the FW bolts with new ones.

I would guess $300-$500. But frankly, I haven't a clue what the going rate is on a clutch job these days

If you got 180k out of a clutch...you did well. Keep doing what you've been doing once the new one is in

If your clutch is slipping you should be able to smell it when you get out of the truck.

Are you having a hard time getting it in gear once it gets hot??
