Would wheel spacers make it so you can run 285s on stock rims without having rubbing?

Just curious to see if anyone knows if having wheelspacers with 2001-04 stock rims would allow room for 285/75r16 tires?

    Thanks

Makes your steering components work harder "scrub". One more thing to fail, especially if you get cheap wheel spacers.

Mostly due to the fact that you now have 12 lug nuts holding your wheel on. As long as you loctite the spacers and check them every oil change should be no problem. I've had zero issues with mine.

Wheel spacers increase clearance at the upper control arm at the expense of less clearance at the front and back of the fender wells.

My pinch welds are already cut off. I have 285s on my truck currently but they are on aftermarket rims with 3.75in backspacing. I am thinking about also putting 285s on my stockers but I know that there will be rubbing on the upper control arm and the frame if I try to do it without wheel spacers. But I am not sure if the wheel spacers would be able to be enough to solve the issues.

    .

If you turn your wheel all the way to one of the locks, whatever side you are turning to, look at the wheel where it's inside of the wheel well, that part, closest to the cab, will actually be pushed closer to the cab with spacers

You should be fine with the stock rims and spacers if you have the pinchweld cleared provided there is enough lift.

I have zero rub and have the 1.5" Spidertrax spacers with 4.0" of backspacing on the pro comp rims.

Are they the 1.5 in spacers?

another question would be.. Is it really worth it? or should I just invest the money in another set of new rims that would do the same thing as the spacers and look a lot better.

    Thanks everyone for the responses

Stock backspacing is 4.5" correct? I'm running 285's on 4.5" bs...clears the uca, rub the frame a little is all. Wheels are 9" wide though opposed to the stock 7.5" ish.

If you want a wider, more aggressive stance, then go with the spacers.

If you simply want to just clear the UCA's and frame from rubbing, then go with some rims that have 4.0" of backspacing, or less, like the rims you're currently running.

As mentioned, the stock TRD rims (assuming those are the ones you're planning on using) have 4.5" spacing. It's been said that 4.0" of backspacing is the 'sweet spot' because it not only leaves enough room for a bigger tire to clear the frame and UCA's, but also isn't off the deep end where you're running into more trouble by scraping the sides of the inner fender well- (as mentioned earlier in this thread) due to the increased scrub radius.

By the looks of your truck though, if you do go with the spacers, I don't think you're going to run into much rubbing after you do some clearencing which it sounds like you've already done.

I'm running BFG 285's, have 4.0" backspacing with 1.5" spacers, have a little over 3" of lift in the front with zero rubbing at all.

truck looks good thanks for the info. And yes they are the stock rims that I want to do this with. With what you are saying though does that mean I would only need a 0.5in wheel spacer if the stock rims are 4.5in?

There are spacers (shims) out there that are .5" that simply slide onto the hub, but they're not really recommended because they decrease the stud length and can cause wheel wobble among other things. The type that actually bolt on are the safest. Unfortunately, the companies who produce these that you want to buy from (that do not make them out of cast) just don't make that type in such a short size.

Yes the 1.5s. No more frame or ucr rub. The 1.25s might be enough:notsure:

    And you need hub centric.

I am running 285s with maxxed 5100s and 10MM spacers. I am running 285 Treadwrights on FJ80 wheels. The only rubbing I get is slightly on the frame at full-lock. Nothing on the UCAs or wheelwells. I did trim a little plastic years ago when I was running "32 Kumho MTs with coilspacers also. Not much though.
