Would you approach your neighbor, if his kid was selling drugs?

My neighbor works two jobs and is hardly every home and his two sons live there part time. One of them is in his late teens / early 20's and I'm convinced that he's selling drugs.

How do I know this? I don't, but 1 plus 1 equals 2. As soon as my neighbor leaves for work the cars start to pull up. They often go around the back of the house, he comes out and gets in their car, and they drive around the block a few times and drop him back off in the driveway. Sometimes they hang out in the driveway skateboard, always disappearing before my neighbor gets home.

I honestly don't care if he's selling some weed, but my wife is all worked up about all the cars that come and go while "dad" is at work. Do I say something to my neighbor about his kid? Do I call the cops? I seriously have no idea what to do. Maybe he know's that his kid is selling drugs and doesn't care? Maybe he's in on it?

I just want the most drama free solution.

Maybe the kids a real manwhore?

I'd just tell the dad what you've seen and let him make his own connections. Then again, I know my neighbours well. If you don't know this guy very well you might not want to say anything depending on how sketchy the neighbourhood is. You don't want to find out the dad is the supplier or something fucked up like that. Odds are though if it's a good neighbourhood and you figure he's clean then that will not be the case.

I would say something, but dont accuse the son of anything. Just let him know what youve noticed. He will figure it out on his own

I would never accuse them of doing anything. Then again, I'd never live where I could see or be seen by another house...

My guess is if you make accusations than you'll be on the receiving end of what the kid(s) think is pay back. Just be ready. Of course I'd expect dad to take the kids side too...maybe.

You have to be certain he is dealing drugs.

If you confront the father, the father will/may question his son.... if the son gets pissed u ratted him out, your life could be a living hell in his 'retaliation' to you or your property.

If you're that concerned, alert the police. They will keep their informant confidential.

Who's to say he's selling drugs maybe they just go for a drive to smoke one rather then stinking up the house. Back in my early 20s skating and weed went hand and hand.I'd be more concerned about hard drugs when stuff starts going missing

Your county and city police department will have an anonymous tip line. While the first call probably won't do much, keep calling. Usually where there's smoke, there's a fire.

The most drama free solution is to not say anything. If he's selling drugs he will get caught by dad or the cops eventually. Especially because it sounds like he's not very good at it if the neighbors have noticed it.

What's the wife's problem with cars coming and going? Afraid you're gonna get robbed and/or shot up in a drug related shoot out?

Simple answer to your specific question is to report it anonymously to the cops. Report that the kid is selling drugs out of his dad's house but the dad has no idea. That will likely lead the cops to talking to the father. No one will know it was you that reported it. Thus, no drama for you, and it will likely stop.

I don't think that would be what I do but it seems like that's what you're looking for. Sounds like you don't know the guy at all if you suspect he could be aware of it or in on it. If I knew the guy and gave a shit about him, I'd tell him what you're seeing and let him come to his own conclusions.

 eventually they will get caught...but my concern would be more of keeping my stuff from getting stolen.

If u call the cops, nothing will happen. Your agency likely has too much to worry about to check on suspicious behavior. If this call came into my beat, and for some reason it actually got dispatched as a legitimate call for service, I would be forced to do an area check. If, again by some miracle, all of that happened, I would also have to miraculously see a car Rollin around with the dealer inside and make the bust. If not, I don't have the time to sit on a pad and do surveillance for dope. Not sure where OP is, but in California, the state has decided they don't care about dope so it's a waste of time to go after a low level neighborhood dealer when the gangs are still shooting every day. Seriously, it's a ticket for possession of heroin, cocaince, meth, pcp!

Just my .02 but I would absolutely not say ANYTHING to the dad. If you really want something done, call your agency and ask to speak to the "low level narcotics" division or something similar. They will put that house on a list and actually give it the ol college try. Hope this helps

She is just worried about the number of shady cars that end up parked in front of our house all day long, with the occupants just staring at our house. We've only lived in the neighborhood for a few months and I've talked to my neighbor a couple times and he seems like a decent guy. It's a decent middle class neighborhood and my neighbor takes good care of his house, lawn, and cars, so he gets a gold star in my book and I'm fairly confident that he has no idea what his kid is up to. I talked to the neighbors on the other-side today and they are completely oblivious to anything that is going on, so we could just be paranoid.

And damn.......I never would have thought that I'd be 31 and stressed about some weed being sold. Those hoodlums!

    This, and that.

I agree...that kind of traffic brings with it the car breakins and garage larcenies. Not to mention the trash and speeding cars in the street.

Maybe he puffs. I was respectful enough, when i lived at home, to take a walk/ride instead of stinking the house up. If they aren't making any trouble, then I would let it be. Hell, he might have some killer shrub.

I'm thinking a trail camera to record the vehicles coming and going. At minimum toss up a wifi camera aiming at the place. You might need some evidence in the future.
