Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
In a heartbeat, yes! Brand new 3.4? Hopefully a DCLB option? I couldn't resist, I hate all the flashy new tech crap on these newer trucks, mainly traction control and like the simplicity of the older trucks. A first gen is still shade tree mechanic friendly too. And I don't find my first gen any less comfortable than my second gen was, maybe the suspension is a little stiffer, but with new shocks I'm sure it would be just as good if not better.

This particular truck may have had collision damage. Look at the seam where the front fender meets the filler trim below the headlight.

Smaller, simpler, yes. Not better MPG.

tell me about it, freaking things are as big as my old c-1500 full sized chevy, the only difference is the new Tacoma might actually be BIGGER!

the newer trucks provide no more protection then being in a plastic box when you get in a wreck. I have seen what happens to plastics (polymers) in wrecks and its not pretty at all.

I rather have a few bruises and still be able to fix and drive the truck after a fender bender. to me, a vehicle is not a disposable item that should be designed to be destroyed in the name of safety protection in the case of an accident.

the newer trucks have air bags and "crumple zones" that surround you in plastic that makes it safer on paper but ensures you end up with a totaled truck with just about any impact so they can sell you another one $$$$

I just meant it's a base model truck I would want....not that actual truck. And yes, I bet I could eek out better mileage with a 2.4/5-speed combo than I could with my 2.7/5-speed.

^They are doing it for sentimental reasons.

The LC70 developed into the Prado, which we call the 4Runner/GX. Most of the world call this the Land Cruiser:

And what is the pickup truck that shares a platform with the Prado? The Tacoma.

of course they do, they have been doing it since the mid 70's

the difference is they are replacing regular steel with paper thin metal and plastic composites everywhere and in an accident, steel crumples to a certain point at which it can no longer compress and it becomes stiffer where things made of paper thin metal and composite plastics don't do this.

your metal bed has 10 times the impact strength of a composite bed and makes a huge difference in rear impact or rear side impact damage but since its not a passenger compartment its perfectly ok with NTHSA that it is made to be weaker and be crushed or damaged more severely then those older metal beds.

newer trucks are safer because they are made to be disposable and not survive accidents, they are designed this way to better protect the persons in them by making the vehicle around them be destroyed instead. some people think this safety at all cost approach is better and some would prefer a more balanced approach so the vehicle can still protect you but better survive an accident and be less expensive to repair afterwards, and its not about wanting to die .

there is a point where safety can go too far and when they want any accident to be survived without injury, that is a good goal, but with anything safety can be taken too far and there needs to be the question asked about making the vehicle just as survivable in an accident as the people in it.

Considering I flipped my 1st gen going about 70mph and walked away with minor cuts and bruises..most definitely!

Paper thin metal is what 1st gen Tacos beds are made of. In fact it's one major complaint from almost all reviewers at the 1st gen's inception in 1995. But don't lump the nice composite bed in 2nd gens into the same category. I like the worryfree nature of the composite bed. I can throw shovels, pitchforks, crowbars, etc. in the bed without fear of scratching the paint or making dents.

Wrong. The frame takes all the impact forces. The bed is just along for the ride. The composite bed in 2nd gens survives most severe rear-end collisions intact (it simply flexes while the crumple zones in the frame activate).

In fact, the bed has to be less stiff than the frame so it doesn't stab into the cab in a severe collision (e.g. rear-ended by a semi). As an extreme example, what do you think happens to this flatbed in a severe collision? http://image.8-lug.com/f/features/d...l_11+2008_dodge_ram_2500+right_side_angle.jpg The bed will be thrust forward to chop the passengers at the waist.

I have seen the results of both first gens and second gens in similar accidents and most first gens survive and need a few repairs while "most" second gens are totaled or have such high repair costs it is very nearly close to being totaled based on the sheer extent of the repairs needed.

buy what you want, but I will trade a second gen for a first gen all day long

second gens are more likely to help you survive a bad accident in but that's about all they have good going for them in my book

I would, in a heart beat. Except id get the supercharger and 4x4. I love my dc prerunner. It has done everything I've asked it to do. Been all over North America including canadia and Alaska. Never had any significant problems. Besides 05+ are BUTT ugly! Let the flames begin!

No, quite content with a well made product (i think we can all agree on that). Jealous that its not 4 wheel, now that's a different story.
