Would you buy a color you don't really like but the price is right?

Holy chit, I've done a lot already!!
Yes I would buy a color I didn't care for if the price was right. I did actually. Looking around at similar trucks I saved about 2-3k, used mind you, just for buying desert sand mica. It has grown on me, partially cause it never looks dirty, but would probably never buy one new. just my $.02

I just did exactly this last weekend. I was out shopping for a lightly used 06 Prerunner Taco and a dealership had a silver one that the price was fair ($19K) and also within my range. I called abt it thurs eve to verify its still available, but when i got there first thing Sat morn, it was already sold (fri eve). :( I was about to leave the dealership and be on my way to the next place on my list with a similar model when they say "Wait!!!" Turns out they also had a newer, yet less mileage (2400!) Prerunner but wanted $24K which is much more than the last one (which frankly put it out of my budget). This model was the Desert Sand color which although its not offensive, is so sedate and unexciting i wasn't thrilled with it. The only thing going for it was how new and clean the vehicle was. I mean, it was only 2400 miles! I laid the numbers down and they offered it to me for $20K on the spot. I was hoping for a number of other colors but this one but for the money, I couldn't refuse! Like i said, the color isn't offensive, its just rather plain, even moreso than silver. At least it won't show the dirt!

Most likely not in the minority here but I actually like the Desert Sand Mica better than Silver, Dark Silver and Black. I think you got a great deal. I usually have favorite colors and less favorite colors for a good deal some of the less favorites become more favorable, to me. I went from Timberline to Pyrite and finally bot a Barcelona Red which I really like know, even though it appears to be the third uglies according to one poll.

thecreeper.... I like white, but whites are hard color to keep clean. When it is clean, oh boy do they look good! White goes good with chrome too. Even black. Remember though, if you live in CT, white is not a good color in the snowy winters we have up here, so consider it a safety issue.

I love the white, prolly cuz thats what I have and the Tacoma is about the only truck I like in white. But if you are spending the money you SHOULD get a color that you want and like. Yes its more money but I feel you need to get what you will like if you going to spend the money on a new truck anyway.

Downey you should have went to mtn states I had a great experience with them!

not to many, love it the way it is
I walked into the dealership and they had the exact truck in the exact color I was looking for and at a great price. That does not always happen. I then waited three weeks for the end of that month to go buy the truck and they had lowered the price even more over that time. The waiting drove me nuts but my girlfriend convinced me, :)

It was a new truck so I was not going to settle on a color i did not want, though the dealer did not have any other great deals for other colors she tried to sell me on so all in all it was a good experience. I might have considered other colors if the price was good

i LOVE my white, i totally dissagree with it being hard to keep clean. it always looks clean unless you put your face right up to it and look. i alwasy have people say hey i see you got your truck all washed up, and i say nope havent washed it in a week. with that kinda deal i think youd be crazy not to snag it up!!

I could have gotten a tremendous deal with an 08 Red DC OR 4x4. It had 83 miles for $23K but I really wanted a white one so I passed it up.

I agree that you should get the color you want. Most of the dealerships around here in Philly "trade" vehicles from what I hear. Don't know how true that is or how rural an area you live in though.

One well-known dealership (Conicelli) claimed there were no more anywhere local and tried to get me to take a Pyrite Mica. It wasn't bad, but if I was buying new, I was going to hold out as long as possible. I used the color to negotiate them down to near dealer invoice on everything (including toolbox, tube steps, and bed extender).

When when the next closest dealership (Ardmore) was able to get me what I wanted within 2-days' time, I wondered if Conicelli straight-up lied, or if the other dealerships just didn't like dealing with them. Ardmore even ended up beating Conicelli's offer since they didn't realize that Conicelli was down so low because of the color (quite nicely, too).

    Huh?
I'd keep looking for what I wanted, but 5K is a good bit of money. I think you can find what you are looking for close to the price of the white one; send some e-mails around with the quote for the white one, and just tell them you are interested in the equipment, not really the color. See what they offer up.

The color may not be your favorite but the package is! What's more important? Personally, I'd go for the features I want...you can always mod it to suit you later!

As for the "gotta move fast" cause "there's other people interested" crap...if there really were other's wanting it, it be gone before saturday...period. This is a sale's "gotcha"...don't fall for it!

Since you're here asking I can only guess that you're not ready to pull the trigger. My advice, wait till Monday, if it's still there offer them $2K less than their best offer. If they start hollering walk away, don't say a word...if they stop you then you've "got them". Either way you weren't that interested in the first place, right?!

I said I would never buy a white vehicle. Then I saw the Sport at Toyota and loved it. Actually I find white very easy to clean compared to my red truck. It's much easier to not miss a spot. Also swirls and scratches seem to blend in much more with the white truck. I'm very pleased with white

Depending on what color...I mean if it's like puke green that the Camry Hybrids come in then hell to the f*ck no! But I like most of the Tacoma colors so probably.

Haha I was in the same boat, and settled for white, now I am in love with it!

I have noticed a few things. It doesn't show dust much, and it does not show scratches barely at all.

I've been to this one dealership (norwalk toyota, ca) that they've made a mistake by adding accessories to a 2wd v6 prerunner OR pkg and bumped up the price from $27Kmsrp to $36K. They added demello front and rear bumpers with lights and with full skid plates underneath, demello sliders and King coilovers up front and King shocks with overflows and not but not least, TRD Stewart wheels wrapped in 275/70/16 BFG AT KO's. It looks awesome but it's hardly gonna climb any rocks and terrain to make use of those sliders and skid plates with it's 2WD. They said "it's gonna sell fast, I've got people coming over to look at it and those who have looked at it are calling". Well, it's been 7 months since and truck is still sitting there and I figured it would be sitting there until next year when they take a big loss to sell it. So don't fall for the stealerships gimmicks. Take your time and find yourself the right truck.

    Just buy the damn truck.
Whatever colour it came in, you'll come to love it very soon.

    Trust me.

Well okay... maybe it would not be good to buy that particular truck but a stock truck in sunflower yellow paint would look awesome.

good comments, no rush for me. although the sales guy called me today asking i come in to talk. i told him i'm too busy and i have other dealers to go to ;) he kept saying i gotta jump on this now. white is "ok" for me but yes in the winter time i have heard of white cars getting hit in snow storms, etc...but...

i guess it was a special order for a customer back in October. The buyer dragged it out for a month before backing out. the truck sat at a dealer for a while before it got moved around and "lost in the shuffle". Whatever...

I did talk to the dealer with the black one and they said they would work with me but i have to come in. i'll go in saturday and see what they can offer.

i don't really need a roof rack...i'm happy with what the black comes with. we shall see.

The price would have to be FANTASTIC. I am waiting four to six weeks for my SWB tacoma, rather than settle for a color I didn't really want.
