Not at all man. I am just trying to point out Big A is the result of the problem. The problem is a consumer driven society that wants things now and doesn't care that they are disposable, throw away, planned obsolescence crap.

I'll give you a perfect example. Two weeks ago my 5 year old Cambell Hausfeld compressor decided to stop working. After looking at it I found the pressure switch was bad which is a super common mode of failure for compressors. I get on their site and the part is discontinued. Same thing with the other e-repair sites I looked up. Keep in mind you can still buy this compressor new. WTF?

After a few minutes of Google image searching I was able to find the OEM of said switch. I ordered the switch and received it 2 days later. Another 30 minutes in the garage to install it and my compressor runs like it was new. How many other consumers would have gone through that hassle and not just ponied up the $280 for a new compressor? IMO, not many.

No, that's exactly what I mean, dealerships are making money hand over fist, that money influences laws in states, therefore we won't see those laws change unless the automakers collectively go to the federal level, which Texas along with some other states (probably) won't abide by, leaving us exactly here after a huge waste of money and time, rinse repeat.

Yeah but it doesn't necessarily make more money for Toyota. I could be wrong but I thought that Toyota want making money on the $20k markup that dealerships were placing on vehicles.

We could have a Toyota service center without a dealership

Look here up. She has an amazing resume. I'm not being sarcastic. She was a big deal in late night tv. She was on the Larry King show as well as a journalist. Also a helicopter pilot.

Can't do that in California anymore. When I bought my current home in Cali 38 years ago we drew up a contract, took $500 to Escrow and did the sale-purchase on my own.

Bottom line, they're still moving units, at their contractual sale price to the dealerships, so they're making the money they agreed to make. More money, no, but money yes.

If true it must be the last 11 years. When we bought our home it was private sale, signed contract, 90 day escrow(long story), move in. lol

Nice! Our current house bought in a bit of a rush. Needed to find something within a week. Was buying out of state, my wife flew up there to look at them while I did everything from the internet at home.

We picked out 10, narrowed it down to 5, looked at 2 of them. Put an offer in on 1. Did it all in three days. Didn’t know anyone in Idaho at the time, picked the realtor(s) at random. The first one tried talking us into something we didn’t want in an area we didn’t want to live in. Fired them almost immediately after some off colored remarks about Hispanics. (Told them, guess it is true about the racism in Idaho) Found another, she turned out to be pretty good and happen to live two doors down from us, thought if she lived in the neighborhood for the last 40 years it must be ok, but really only needed her to unlock the doors.

My Brother In Law and his newest wife just bought a home in Caldwell Idaho. He is born and bred from Lomita (South Bay) of Los Angeles. He said "It's time to get out of Dodge". I've been making that drive up to my In Laws in Lomita for close to 50 years. I hate that drive north from San Diego more and more every time I go. Good thing they always have beers and J.D. in stock for me. And Grandma still makes killer Tamales!

Buy a new Toyota on Amazon? Not me. Sight unseen no way.
A few years ago we bought a new Subaru Forrester that was a dealer trade from Michigan unseen. In my wife's excitement she went to the dealership to pick up our new car and drove it home before I got off work.
There it was sitting in my driveway with its half assed quicky repaint and repairs after it was damaged while in transit from Michigan. We drove it back to the dealership and told them to get us another car. They refused and I had a 3 month battle with Subaru because the stealership lied to them about what happened. They finally replaced the car after a rep from Subaru finally came out and saw what the dealership was trying to pull. We were given another new Forrester that was plagued with antilock brake related issues. We were told we were being ridiculous and that nothing was wrong with the car. My wife spun out trying to slow down when it was raining and the car tried to spin out when I applied the brakes driving on a slushy road. Good thing it had all wheel drive to get itself unstuck if it went that far. I didn't feel the love. We went back to Toyotas.
Never buy anything unseen or not driven by you first. Just because you can do it doesn't mean you should.

Yeah, that whole sweeten the deal thing is just what I hate. It just feels like they're playing games with me. Give me your best and final and do it quick. My last experience with a Toyota dealer was a couple of months ago. I needed a part for my Tacoma and when I drove onto the lot there were at least 10 salesmen just waiting to pounce. They were visibly disappointed when I said I was just there for parts.

I parked next to some brand new Jeeps yesterday in front of a dealership to walk next door to another business. On the way back I was curious and looked at three of the window stickers.

A four door with a lot of added crap was $79,645 MSRP. A less endowed one was only 77K, and a basic Wrangler was almost 50K.

That's twice the price for the Wrangler when I tried to buy one ten years ago, and basically the same vehicle. And if you are thinking it's unrealistic of me to be surprised... there are vehicles for sale today in the low twenties that are better vehicles than the ones I could buy ten years ago priced in the low twenties.

Would I buy a Taco (or any other vehicle) on Amazon? The ramifications of losing dealerships have both benefits and detriments. Set prices benefit those that are too inept to negotiate... but are not attractive to good negotiators.
