Not sure where you’re getting your numbers from. The 4.0 peaks at 3700 vs 4600 for the 3.5.

Four years ago I bought a used Ridgeline, my first “truck”
After some time, I started to investigate the Tacoma, when we got my wife’s 19 Highlander. Traded the ‘Pilot with a bed’ in on my 19 Off-road. I couldn’t be happier. I love this truck! I hope to keep it for ten more years, perhaps my 11 yr old learns to drive in it and she takes it. I’m sold on Toyota...my 21 year old son bought a Corolla SE last fall. Our driveway is all ‘Yota.

Isn't that how the gen3 tacoma come's from toyota? I'm a bit perplexed this being the very first tacoma owned. Granted the automatic behaved somewhat wonky when i first got it, but like said above it now shifts silky smooth even smoother than my gen1 tundra. Drivability is fine, just like any other vehicle owned.

To piggyback on this, statistically: any method of customer satisfaction research that relies on data provided optionally will always be skewed hard towards the vocal complainers. Yes there will be some data from the other extreme (vocal enthusiasts), but much less. For people to post on a forum, or fill out optional reviews, they have to have a reason to overcome general human laziness. Most people who are generally satisfied have little reason to make the effort, and most people who overcome normal laziness do so because they got pissed off about something.

If you want unbiased reviews on true reliability, that information is out there, and it’s quantitative. Compare to, say, Jeep, and you may feel significantly better about buying a new Taco.

I've had my 2019 for almost two years now. Everyday I stare at it, I still get that feeling I did the day I bought her. I feel like I will never own another vehicle. Welcome to TW brother :taco:

20k miles isnt much of a endurance test but by the time most of these trucks reveal their flaws or gain a reputation the next generation has made its appearance. so far i enjoy driving my truck and the features it has.

I would probably look closer at the 2.7. I had that motor in my 1999 tacoma and it was great depending on what you use it for. Driving on dirt roads to the trailhead and hauling mtn bikes it would be perfect. You really can't safely drive the v6 very fast on the highway with those brakes and soft suspension (I've go the TRD OR). The recent software update for the transmission has fixed most of the problems. I'll hang onto mine until something with more cup holders comes along.

Mostly from memory, as this has been discussed frequently on here. But, a quick search online found the same numbers. I used to have an old spec sheet, but I’d have to look for it. Curious as to where you got the 3700 number from?

Squishy suspension hmmm not sure about that after putting leveling kit on . Also of you cant handle tacoma brakes don't own a tacoma . These are trucks they ride funny make noises trucks are not sports cars ,we can drive em like a sports car but they never were born one . I try not to read too many threads cause most of the time we have green horn tacoma owners

I've owned a couple tacomas, so I'm hardly "green". My first gen stopped much better. The third gen is heavier, just physics. I live in the mountains with lots of "city" people heading up for skiing. If you need to panic stop to avoid anyone, you know what I mean. They are great trucks but I really loved that 1999 I had. Lots of good memories in that thing. A nice low mileage one is crazy money these days.

Shift quality (smoothness) isn't the issue. It is when it upshifts and downshifts that are terrible. Apparently, this is very subjective since many don't have an issue with it. Mine shifts like it's a two-cycle dirt bike going through the gears to get to 6th as fast as possible, causing it to lug the engine in almost all situations. 6th gear is almost not usable unless 75+ MPH. The throttle response (tip in) is VERY slow from the factory. I believe that contributes to the transmission's weird shifting. The tune I got increased throttle response, and it made a drastic improvement. Why are pedal commanders so popular on these 3rd gens? Because the throttle response is so slow.

I'm just an old fart that has worked on cars for decades. I built a 10 second Malibu from the ground up, so I'm not just some keyboard warrior on here to stir up trouble. We're in the 21st century, simple things like transmission shift points, throttle response and smooth acceleration should be nailed down. I don't want to hear excuses this is a truck. I'm very glad most people are happy with their Tacoma. That doesn't take away the fact that I DON'T like things about the Tacoma. Why take offense if I have complaints about mine?

It definitely has some quirky shifting. That factory software update really helped mine. I just think the gearing is too tall and the torque curve on that v6 is not optimal. I had a new chevy colorado with the v6 and 8 speed auto. That combo worked well. The build quality was my concern with that truck. As for the rear drum brakes, at least they last forever. I had over 170k on my 1st gen and never replaced the rears. Maybe the previous owner did, but I doubt it.
