Kind of regret not getting OR, but they don't offer them in AC and manual... shrug

It's green wood that needs to dry a while. Helps to keep the boards from warping.

My tractor wasn't large enough to lift each rack, which was nicely banded by the mill.. Sucked to have to move it all piece by piece and restack..

No shit! I guess that's the real reason Toyota kept those drum brakes!

Exactly this, LOL. Drives me nuts when I'm traveling to Austin which is like 3 hours. It's constantly changing gears. Other than that I love the truck.

Even when you set cruise control to 70mph on flat road it will still change gears?:confused:

    Thank God I bought manual:bowdown:

If you live in Kansas that may work fine. But if there are any hill or slopes of any kind this thing starts going into spasms with the gear shifting. Austin is starting to get into hill country of Texas. While they are very minor stuff compared to roads in Kentucky or Tennessee, it still struggles.

I agree on the manual, probably is the way to go!

Nice wood, obviously the full size would pull easier and better, but you don't think the taco could have done it?

Time to upgrade to a full size tractor as well?

This is my 4th Tacoma. Had 3 second generations and currently a 3rd generation. I'll get back to you in a few more months if I would buy another 3rd generation. LOL!

It was heavy. The trailer alone weighs about just short of #2,000, and green sawmill lumber is 50% heavier (on average) than a similar kiln dried 'store' bought. I've hauled a tractor on that trailer (#3,500lbs) and never knew it was there. I did know the lumber was there! I'd say trailer and load weighed more than #7,000 lbs. So- yeah I wouldn't use a Tacoma for one trip. My Chevy can tow 10,000, so it was no sweat.

My yard mule tractor is a 30hp JD compact, the bucket lift break out would be too light. Plus the lumber had to be moved into the shop, and the cottonwood is 16' long, so maneuvering into the shop, on uneven ground, would have been.. Interesting.

Just fyi to ALL- I never said I didn't like the Tacoma. I wouldn't have bought it if I hadn't liked it. However having owned it- I would not buy another as a primary truck. I've pretty much always owned a full size and I thought I could make due with the Tacoma. I probably could have made due, but add in all the quirks, shifting issues, Toyota stating 'all normal BS'.. It wasn't worth it to hold it. I'll stick to owning a full size and maybe get an older Toyota as a mountain goat. In fact I'm talking to a guy with a relatively unmolested 1985 22RE right now...

I've owned A LOT of trucks- 1985 Toyota 4x4. Jeep J-10, Ford F-250, Dodge 2500 diesel and many more. Some were great, some we're shitty. That's just how it goes. I do think Toyota needs to up their game. This 3rd gen has a lot of QC issues that I have never seen on any other Toyota that I have owned, and I have owned the 1985 truck, MR2, Celica GT and currently the wife has a Prius.

I mean seriously- my Chevy was about the same price as a Tacoma Limited and it is just head and shoulders, far and away a nicer product. Sorry if that rubs people wrong- but tis true.

I have to admit, going through this thread and forum makes me want to possibly hold up on getting a 3rd gen. I should understand by now that this is the internet and most likely for every complaint written here there are probably hundreds that are happy. But yea, reading here about the auto transmission failures, lack of power, cracking windshields, hood shakes, rear axels breaking, it does have me thinking of maybe going a different direction. Anyone can see the value that Tacoma holds their value, but I tend to keep my cars for a while so in the long run it may not matter. Who knows.
I've owned a Frontier for like 10 years and it has been a great truck overall, but I have put a lot of miles on it and ready for something different. Nobody knows if Nissan will put out a new model. I do like the look of the OR Tacoma, but do want something reliable. I don't like the dealer pressures, but I need to do a test drive for myself. Just a random perspective from a new one here.

I would definitely go drive one for yourself before taking internet complaints and letting that stop you from getting one. They really are awesome trucks. Do some have some quirks? Of course - every single manufacturer does. People don't typically go on the internet to post about how much they love their purchase - they go there when they have a complaint to see if anyone else did as well, then you wind up with a vocal minority providing your internet presence. My vote is to go drive one seriously - if you're looking for this size truck, this is the one, hands down.
