My comment about the headlights is that they were a cheaper Depo replica of the Pro lamps, not factory Toyota pieces.

This is a 2022, right? I know in MA if a vehicle is repaired and it’s less than a year old or has less than 15,000 miles OEM parts are required. I don’t know what other state’s laws are, but if I saw this in MA it would scream “as cheap as possible” and a red flag to me. A set of used OEM headlamps would perform better and be higher quality. I had my back bumper replaced after a minor bump and my shop used all OEM parts. They could have used cheap Sortafit parts and no one would be the wiser but they don’t operate like that.

This isn’t about someone changing headlamps for cosmetic reasons, this is someone looking at the cost differential without looking at quality. This also isn’t an enthusiast trying to build a truck their way, it’s a pay and spray shop.

I have had better luck with aftermarket (Keystone Automotive CAPA certified) panels not rusting over OEM panels!

Coming from the salvage industry, I would check over the electronics wiring of this truck and have an independence alignment shop check out everything structurally with suspension geometry. If both of those are good to go, I wouldn't hesitate. The rebuilder (I can almost promise you a dealer didn't rebuild this truck) can provide all receipts for parts used upon request...then you will know how much putty is on panels over replaced panels. If everything was done correctly and the title is still clean, $33k isn't too bad. If the title is branded, I'd offer a bit lower. Keep in mind, this truck most likely went for about $18k at auction (click here for a reference), about $5k in parts and another $5k in labor/supplies and then a profit for the seller.

i would accept the risk at 27k out the door. Of course it would need to pass the eye test before accepting that risk.

If it were more moderately priced, I might take my chances. But $33K does seem a bit rich with that amount of damage. The dealer is waiting for someone with truck fever to come along and buy this one. Good on you OP for doing your homework.

$10K truck with salvage title, you as last owner; maybe.
$30K truck with salvage title, couple years old; I don't think so.
Not the only truck in the world.

What’s the advantage you are trying to gain, is it really worth it?
Chances are it’s been repaired well and you won’t have any issues, but why chance it?

I mean it's pretty clear. He is seeing it as a 33k vs 46k purchase. Now we're debating whether the top or low # is worth it. The compare seems off to me

not sure where they’re getting that number. Look at the pictures on the ad, this truck doesn’t have tech or premium packages.

    it looks like a stripper.

Nope, you are talking a wrecked truck and comparing that to one that has bolt on mods. You go pay $33K for that pile.

exactly, is it worth it? To OP, I’ve seen everyone else make the point and I’m just trying to make it to, it’s not a $46,000 truck for $33,000, it’s a truck with a rebuilt title for $33,000, if you go down this road without experience doing it, just know that you are opening yourself up to potential you can’t see.

I see some using a brand new price as a comparison; the more accurate would using the real world used value (I know it’s relatively high, but still not new) to compare against the junker.
