Okay fellas... Back for a new one.

This time, 1997 regular cab 4x4 V6 with manual trans and manual hubs. Ooo... Yes, I know.

Seller listing as having 110k miles and asking $7,500. Carfax shows 289k miles a year ago. Whoops.

So assume it has over 300k by now. I'd fix the odo to reflect proper mileage.

Is over 300k a bad idea on the 3.4? The rest of the truck looks great.

These are the best pics I could get. I need thoughts in this. Dunno how to take the fake mileage issue plus the high actual mileage. I need her to be dependable without a lot of headaches. Some are ok.

What do we think? V6 reggie in manual should be a lot of fun, I'd think...

That is a clean-LOOKING truck. It could be that the seller meant that there is 110k on a new/rebuilt motor. If thats the case, then I'd want to see the receipts for the work. No jproof, no purchase.

110k on the odometer. So the cluster was swapped at some point is what the evidence points to. He's only had it a year and claims he was swindled by the auction dealer that sold it to him.

Not a chance. Nothing over 100k for me. Even if the engine was brand new, you still have the tranny, transfer case, driveline, suspension, bushings, bearings... You get the point. That's 17 years old. 7500$ can get you a lot more than that.

Yes, obviously the price will come down now, which he has agreed to.

Still have to see to what, considering real mileage numbers vs. how much more life she's got in her.

Heck no, not with that mileage at that price. In that range you could find a nice extended cab TRD with less mileage.

Once the mileage issue surfaced we're looking somewhere in the 3 to 4k range. Obviously not the original asking price that considered 110k miles .

There was one similar to this on craigslist in my area for 4250$ a few months back. It had 245k and It took forever to sell but it eventually did. by "like this" i mean standard cab v6 4x4... which is kinda funny because i have heard people on TW adamantly deny that any standard cabs came with a V6... :notsure:

Ya I have seen multiple people claim that they never made a single cab v6 but I have seen quite a few on them. There is one right now on Craigslist that even has all the power options with 258k miles for 3500

They did put the v6 in 95-96 tacomas, I had one, I would not pay that kind of money for that truck

Well, he was swindled for a reason! Don't you get swindled for the same reasons!

As the old saying goes, "Never give a SUCKER an even break"! Its your money, but that's alot of mileage and he has already tried to misrepresent the sale. My advice is to keep looking, and if you do buy it, don't bitch and moan when things turn sour and you have to put money into it for repairs when you've been warned. :crapstorm:

lol thanks fellas. Yea I've decided not to pursue this one anymore, even at $3k. As a project truck maybe but I'm needing something a bit more reliable right now and this one just has too many red flags for my comfort level.

Glad I posted this one up to get everyone's input. Always great advice.

I'm looking at a Lunar Mist '01 Prerunner Reg Cab with 145k on it for about $4k and a very boring carfax. We'll see how this one goes.

    Thanks again, all!
