But under that actually functional hood scoop lies the intercooler for the turbo diesel........

I'd rock the topper for a while if it was a condition of getting the truck.

I'm in the minority here but I think it's ok. It would make loading my bikes and kayaks on a roof rack easier. It probably occasionally has and advantage to a full cap being able to be flipped up for taller things. I bought a roof height cap because I think they look the best but there have been times I couldn't fit something in and a taller cap would have let me. And there's times I tell people I can't move something for them even though I have a truck because I'm not wanting to take the cap off.

Surprised that there's so much hate for this thing. Kinda because when the Polar Expedition Taco came about there was post after post asking "where can I get a shell like that?". Responses were that is a giant aux fuel tank, not a shell and you can't get one. Well here it is and now no one likes it :notsure:.

I'm surprised at the hate. Well, actually this is TW so I shouldn't be surprised. It's not for me, but neither is a bed rack and RTT and a zillion hard drawers and slides, obscuring whatever little cargo space there is in a 5' bed. Or a truck with a 3" lift and steps that hang down 6". So, to each is own and it has some practical value with the opening hatch. Kinda like those old Studebaker wagons or GMC Envoys with the sliding roof to allow tall things to be carried in back.

THAT does look cooler than the subject one but IMO it's just a cover and with less space than a shell.

They may not be available to people in the US but they can both be had, Hilux/Tacoma in Mexico.

Edit. Was it driving on the road or being trailered? Theres a defense contractor who does "armor up" projects with Hilux's in that area.

I got back recently from a week-long road trip in Baja (highly recommend going there by the way). Of Mexican-plated late model small pickups, I saw far more Tacomas, including many 3rd gens, than Hiluxes. Probably more Mitsubishi L200's than Hiluxes. Not sure if it's price, or what, but they just aren't popular. And, only saw a few late-model (i.e. the one not sold here yet) Rangers. But many of the earlier Rangers.
