    I sold my Honda Accord and got the Tacoma.

    So, no.

    I just make sure I make enough money to not give a shit about gas prices. :)

    my taco is not my daily driver. i have a 1993 corolla i drive to work and it gets 30+mpg. my taco is my weekend/leisure vehicle. so no, i wouldnt trade the taco in for a more fuel-efficient vehicle.

    Yeah, it was a fun car to drive and it got great gas mileage. My only complaint was that if I ever had a problem with it, it would cost $$$ to fix it. What year are you looking at getting for your wife?

    Oh damn! I had the last model GTI. The new ones are pretty sweet, they have even more power than mine did. Other than maintenance costs, it was an awesome car. If your wife doesn't car too much for speed, I would recommend getting a Rabbit. They are much cheaper and insurance will be cheaper as well.

    I have the 4 bang. It gets better mileage than my worked integra. Not complaining at all.

    Hopefully it'll be that way even after the SC. =)

    Same here.
    I love driving the truck but I use 35% less fuel with the saturn than the truck.
    72 miles round trip (280 for the work week) is 8 gallons for the saturn.
    14 for the truck or say $20 for the week or $1000 a year.
    Either way $1000 pays for the insurance, upkeep on the Saturn plus its nice to have an extra set of wheels

    Financially, it does not make sense to buy a car to drive part of the time just for saving gas;

    Lets say gas is $3/gal and you drive 20,000mi/yr total.

    If you drive only the Tacoma;
    Tacoma @ 16mpg, 20,000mi/yr = 1333 gal = $3999

    If you drive the car and the truck half and half;
    Tacoma @ 16mpg, 10,000mi/yr = 625 gal = $1875
    Whatever @ 30mph, 10,000mi/yr = 333 gal = $999
    Total costs = $2874

    You'd save $1125/yr in this case.

    If you decide to keep both the truck and the car, remember that insurance, property taxes (if they are assessed in your state), registration fees, and maintenance costs eat away at the gas savings too.

    Then there's the cost of the add-on car. $1125/yr is about $100/mo if you break even. You can't buy much with that unless you're getting a total POS or putting down a large down payment. In either case, you're really not getting anything or saving any money.
