Buy what you can afford, bottom line.

Trading in a paid off truck for a car with better gas mileage and payments is just dumb.

No chance. I have gone the fuel efficient route and the satisfaction I get driving my truck is worth the reduction in fuel economy. Besides, I may drive 85% of my miles on the highway but have yet to see any MPG calculations under 20 and have had several tanks break the 21-22 mpg mark!

    Haha...not doing it...can't make me!
The 370z is a bad ass car, I just bought the Nismo in Pearl White, 3rd gear pulls are very impressive! Went from an 08 Honda Civic to the Tacoma, the gas mileage is half, I would never think of going back, I love these trucks.

Actually I already improved my gas mileage by buying a Tacoma. I used to have an 89 4Runner with 316,000 miles on it. Got about 10-12mpg city 8-10mpg hwy. Now I get about 17mpg city and 19mpg hwy. So yay for me!!!!:yay:

I may reconsider my position. I just got 128mi out of 1/2 tank. 14.3mpg. Fail.

Haha jk...the gas mileage is truly disappointing but I also need to quit driving it like my Z.

:brianr: to you 400 mile clubbers!

Its been said a few times but I would just use my Gixxer for commuting to work. Wouldn't sell my truck and would probably add a supercharger right now if I had the money. For me, my truck is already paid for so unless I got something for an even trade, the added cost of payments would more than offset any real gains in MPG savings.

Besides, who really thinks that you would get just as much satisfaction walking out into the parking lot and looking at your Toyota ECHO?

    Lots to come
Been there done that!! Sold my '99 Tacoma and bought a jetta.. Watching my tacoma being driven off by its new owner was like seeing your hot ex-girlfriend with somebody else!! Even though the jetta was fun to drive and got an average of 25 mpgs it wasn't worth it to me. I had to have a truck again and traded it in on an '09 tacoma sport dbl cab. No regrets on that!!!

On a trip from boise to jackson wy, I got 23.677 MPG, and Ive never got below 21 hwy or 18 in town. V-6, access cab, off road, mobil 1 everything, pretty much stock. My girlfriend drives an 04 Forester and it gets about 27 hwy. I need a truck for the bed, 4x4, ground clearance, towing...pretty much everything a truck can do that a car cant. (My old 79 brat was very sweet though:))
I could not be happier with the mileage on this pickup. Lots of newer cars get about the same mileage and they have none of the benefits of owning a truck. Plus, all the cars I want are very fast and there is no way that I could afford buying one right now, and they would get worse mileage than my truck!!!
An early 80's VW "caddy" pickup with the 1.8 diesel would get around 45+MPG though, and run off of fry oil.......... Funny that the auto industry could get that kind of MPG back then and now you have to buy an F'in Prius to see those numbers.....REVOLUTIONARY!!!! But thats an entirely different rant:D

I agree...or I would just buy another street bike...those things get the best gas mileage if you can stay off the throttle...lol

Hahah motorcycles do not save any money. At first it might, but then you realize that its so much fun and you ride anywhere and everywhere for no reason. Before you know it you're blowing through gas money without knowing it because you can fill up for $20 and ride all day. Then you start getting accessories and mods for the bike. But then you need a bigger, better, faster bike and you start all over. Its a trap my friends :D

I have my 2010 Taco leave it parked most of the time. I drive it when I am off.

I drive a 2009 Yaris for commuting exactly like the one below. 40 mpg is hard to beat. Believe it or not, this car is a blast to drive. A great little third car to run errands and go to work in. Cruise control, aluminium sport wheels, AM/Fm/CD and cold a/c.:D Love it and its a keeper.

    Cheers!

I'd consider buying a cheap, used economy car if gas was $5+ a gallon and I had to commute, but I'd never sell the truck.

Beater cars are where its at :D

I bought a 87 camry 5 years ago for $300 bucks and it gets 30 mpg and is basically free transportation. I commute 20 miles each way to work so it paid for itself a long time ago.

when the truck is empty and I dont feel like filling it up, hop in the camry :)

    This truck's definitely a keeper.

I commute in it to and from work approximately 9 miles round trip a day. Having a house and property I have to haul stuff regularly so it's invaluable. It's also great for bad weather and going out in the boonies and.......it's paid for. :D

In the future, if I ever need a more fuel efficient car for cummuting i'd just get a yaris or something similar but the truck is staying.

Besides.....All other times my wife and I are together in her vehicle, a '06 Rav 4 V6 that gets 20+ mpg in the city and almost 30 mpg hwy. We're gonna replace that with a hybrid or diesel within the next few years.
