I drove about 220 miles for my truck.
But like 660 miles were driven to get it!

When I bought my new (2012) truck, there were exactly 0 in all of California how I wanted; MT+4x4+RC. <irony>
But when I found one at the dealership in Carson City NV, their top sales rep drove out to pick me up in San Francisco, and drove me back to Carson City where I bought the truck and drove it home.

I drove 3.5 hours to get my 2008. When you are a manual transmission fan, you do what you gotta do....not many of them around. No regrets, I love my truck!

If I can drive there and get home the same day maybe. Most dealers will work with you. My 07 Tacoma and the 03 F150 before that were brought in from out of state. I bought them from small local dealer here in GA with limited stock on the lot. I picked out the options important to me and they found one at another dealer. They sent someone to get it and I bought it the next day. My F150 came from Birmingham AL, the Tacoma from Charleston SC.

Years ago, my son broke his arm when he wrecked his Yamaha TTR 125. Being the logical parent, I reasoned that had he been on a bigger dirt bike, he wouldn't have wrecked. Started looking on craigslist and found a cherry 2001 KDX 220. By the description and judging by the pictures, I knew the bike had very few hours on it. The frame was that beautiful Kawasaki green and you could tell it hadn't been touched up and the side cases of the engine didn't even have any scuffs on them. When I called him, he said he had a handful of interested parties coming to look at it. I told him that IF it was as good as the pictures showed and he would hold it for me, I'd give him $100 more than he was asking. That Friday, my wife and I decided Cameron could take the day off school and take the trip with me. We were going from southern Illinois to just south of Kansas City.
The guy had that thing shined up when we got there. I'd told my son that it was kind of clapped out but I wasn't spending thousands on a bike that he was just going to tear up anyway. He was pretty much a straight A student and a really good kid, still is.
When we got there, the guy opened the garage door and there were about five other dirt bikes there but this one was absolutely cherry, looked like it had never been ridden. My son looked right past it, looking for a barnyard beater, looked around a little, then his gaze settled on that shiny new bike. He looked at the seller and saw a big grin on his face. The seller was a good dude.
He looked at me and said, "You lied to me." I laughed and said, "Yeah".
We took a quick spin on it, I gave the guy $2,500 and we loaded it up and drove back home. That was about four hours each way if I recall correctly and we had a good time with it.
I don't mind a little road trip every now and then, if it's for a good reason. We still have the bike and it's still in pretty good shape. A few months later, I found one for myself and got rid of my big red pig, XR650R.

Drove three hours from central New Jersey to southwest New Jersey to trade in my 2012 4X4 regular cab stick for my 2013 regular cab automatic with 24 thousand miles, this was a extremely well cared for 4X4. That was about four years ago. I am sure I could sell it for what I paid for it back then but this will stay with me for a long time. Well worth the trip. All the ones I looked at were ridden hard or out of my price range.

I drove 3 hours one way to get mine.

I would've drove twice that far if the price was right.

If you're willing to travel I'd avoid the rust belt and look at the history and make sure it never took resident in the rust belt. There is such a huge difference between a southern/south west vehicle.

Drove 12 hrs round trip for my
2015. Didn’t think about it for even a second, was a great decision. Was in SUCH better condition than a simile truck I passed up locally.

For the right deal I’d drive 10 hours each way I’m sure. I buy vehicles rarely, and when I do, I look far and wide for what I want.

A local college kid started a summer business of driving southern vehicles up north. He actually killed it during covid and this summer. Basically $350 a day plus flight, train gas, hotel. I asked him where do I apply?

Basics. Tires, painted headlighes, UHLM, baby winch in the bed, and heated mirrors :)
Flew down from Maine to Maryland to buy my 2nd gen. Was the only one I could find with everything I wanted/needed; V6, 6spd, 4x4, tow package. Couldn't find that combination ANYWHERE within 500+ miles of me, and I wasn't even picky on the color. I just needed something reliable and rugged enough to take on blizzards and mud season. But oddly enough, I'm not even really a truck guy lol. So I needed to get exactly what I wanted to really be happy with it.

Having driven it for 3 years now, I wouldn't hesitate to do it again. Could be better on gas, but I love this loyal steed to death and I'm glad I hunted down exactly what I wanted.

    working on it... :-)
Yep! Drove almost 4hrs each way to get my Tacoma. Would've gladly driven further... for the right machine/price.

Many moons ago I bid on a motorcycle on eBay and, much to my surprise, I won it. Bought a one-way ticket and flew from Detroit to Atlantic City. A taxi cab then bus ride all the way to the end of the line hours later... I was standing in front of it. Fired it up, took it for a spin around the marina, stopped back, handed a cashier's check to the seller, tossed my backpack in the trunk and headed home. Still own that bike today, some 20 years later. One of the best expenditures of fun money that I ever made, with terrific "getting to know you" return trip, plus a great story.

    So, yeah. Absolutely.

Good one. I’m all for helping a kid who can stay out of trouble and get good grades. My friends daughter got herself in a good university with good grades and chasing down funding on her own. When it was time for her to get her own car I gave her 3k so she could avoid financing it.
