there was this one time... at band camp, when my 94 yoter blew chunks about 6 hours from where i was from, broke, broken, screwed. this one guy and his fam asked if all was ok, frankly no, nothing was ok. so they threw me a couple hun and helped me get to his bros place to do some damage control. They saved my keister! as a favor to them, i have always stopped to help people out, pulled an older lady out of a ditch in mt, got a vw running enough to help some one get home, yeah, there is a lot of risk involved, but when someone cries because they cant say "thank you" enough. its priceless.

LOL Middle of Nowhere, Wyoming, I was about 17. Passed a truck with a flat tire towing a trailer with 2 horses on the side of the road. My dad and I stopped to help these two ladies change their truck tire. My dad had been asleep so I pulled over and while dad woke up and put his boots on I went to see if we'd even be able to help or just make a phone call in town (pagers were still popular then, cell phones weren't common). In the meantime this guy in a little Honda drove up and did this kinda funny macho guy thing, puffed up, and laid down under the truck and started messing with cable for the tire winch. Like... dude, if you manage to get the cable off the tire, the tire will fall on your head. Why are you under the truck? But hey, he was driving a Honda so clearly wasn't familiar with how that worked.

Sidenote: My dad made me change a tire on each of our vehicles and fill all the fluids before I was allowed to drive the vehicle and it was pretty funny watching me at age 16 change a tire on a Ram 2500 while my dad sat in a lawn chair and laughed. See, I wasn't allowed to ask him questions, I could only use the resources available to me if I was on the side of the road-- car manuals are still my friends!.

Anyway, these women didn't have a jack so dad went to get his from the truck. I waited for a minute and finally (really trying not to hurt his feelings, I promise) told Honda guy he needed to get out from under the truck so we could change the tire. I feel I owe this man some karmic debt, because certainly it wasn't a good feeling for this little blonde girl to tell him she could change the tire if only he'd move. :D

Always stop, folks. Chances you'll be hurt are so slim, and as I mentioned before it's entirely possible to save a life. It's only a moment of your time.

I help motorists when I can, if it's out on the trail, I always stop, but in town, most everyone has AAA and if they're on a phone I figure they're probably good. I do stop if I see something unsafe or someone who doesn't look like they should be trying to change a tire. I get random exercise by pushing people's cars out of the roadways. It's a good feeling karmic thing when you roll up on a big sedan and say, "just get in and steer it over there" One night I saw a Prius and what looked like an older guy digging for the spare, it was late and the car was on a slope. I had to go down, double back and come back to them. I had them move the car to a flat spot, swapped out the tire and they were so happy they said they would pray for me that Sunday! That made my week.
I look at it this way, hopefully someone will stop and help me if I ever get stranded.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Its not likely to see a Toyota broke down on the side of the road, maybe a flat tire, but doubt it would be very likely to be mechanical! I sometimes see Rangers and Colorados parked in the ditch, their owners vacated the scene by then, they shoulda had a Taco!

I usually stop, but some of the stories are making me think twice, also less likely to stop if wife is nervous about it. Don,t want to put her in danger.

I would be more likely to help the person in jeans than the one in the Armani suit.

LOL My dad's words: "I'm not raising two idiot women who don't have enough sense to change a tire." Every once in a while there's no one around to help, after all.

A few weeks back I slid off the road on ice during a storm and some guy did the roll-by "Are you ok?" thing. I was fine but I was immensely grateful he asked. There wasn't another car on that road for 10 miles.
