I recently obtained a lightly used Rough Country 3in lift kit for my Tacoma for free. Would it be worth installing? I know they get a bad reputation here since they are a spacer lift, but if I want to do some light-moderate off reading maybe once a month, will there be an issue? Or should I just wait a few months to get a better suspension system?

    Lots, straight from the factory.
It can go either way. It’s really up to you. Personally, I wouldn’t use it. I put the 6122/5100 setup on my truck and I’m quite happy. I do some moderate off roading a few times a month. Would have liked to have done better than the Bilstein, but I just don’t have the funds.

I have the 4.5 with fox coil overs
No issues and I wheel it often

Just remember the control arms lay low still so a skid is recommended and do not use the RC shocks / coil overs it comes with

If you can do the install yourself, yes.

You will learn a lot, save money and score some style points (with the layman/laylady).

Don’t pay someone to install it.

No, I wouldn't install ANY lift kit. I have no need for one.

If I did need one, I'd have a decent lift done by a reputable shop that does lifts as a main source of income, and is known to stand behind their work.

Sell it, save the cash and get it done right the first time. Light/moderate off roading is totally doable in a stock OR.

I don't know much about lifting tacomas yet, but their products are not well regarded for Jeeps. They are said to be a cheaper lift with a harsh ride. I was told to steer clear from them 10 years ago for my Jeep and I did just that. There is a local 4x4 shop that does push Rough Country to customers that don't want to spent a lot. I would not consider it on something you drive daily, maybe on a dedicated trail rig.
