Thinking of looking at a 01 tacoma 4x4 4cyl 2.7L 5speed tomorrow with only 27,000 miles on it. Looks pretty sweet, but hes asking $14,300 for it. Blue books at 6 or so. Seems ridiculous, but the miles are pretty ridiculously low too. Regular cab, with a topper.

Just paid $12k for a 2002 2.7 4x4 SR5 with 48,000. Simple supply and demand. If I didn't buy it, someone else definitely would have. These are great little trucks and every day they become rarer.

Paid $17k for my '04 in March with 24k miles on it, xtra cab supercharged v6, 5sp 4x4

If I had found the truck you did instead, I would've pulled the trigger on it. The 4 banger isn't ideal but you don't see them with this low of mileage hardly at all anymore. The market out here in SoCal for low mileage first gens is insane.

edit: just saw it's a regular cab, hmm that's a tough call. Makes the 2.7l motor more practical but that's where the practicality ends lol. I do love the looks of the 4x4 reg cabs though, especially when lifted and modd'ed well.

seems like a not too absurd deal to me... in AZ people are getting 10k for ones with 170k+ miles. My truck has 110k on it and i would bet it would sell in about 2 hours for 10k..... they just hold their value.

trying to sell my 99 TRD with 169K for $8200 in portland Or. Any takers!? :)

But yeah..14K sounds like A LOT... These motors are abundant so I wouldn't be worried about a high-mileage one. Especially when i've only put 35K on mine in 5 years! I see them with 300k miles for sale all the time!

Back then, I'd take the 4 popper over the V6 any day of the week.

I own both. Xcab and standard cab with 4 cylinder.

    No fucking way!

That standard cab rides stupid rough, thus it only has 100k on the clock. The xcab hit 300k. I bought another xcab at that point.

If you are over 5'6" you won't fit too good in a standard cab.

You could buy a high mileage one and have it completely rebuilt for less .

    improved toyota goodness.
IMO thats too little milage... look for one that has a few more miles and has ben run. thats the formula I use...
I have had quite a few vehicles over the time I have ben driving and at this point if I look for a vehicle I am going to be driving often I want to see at least the equivelant of 10k a year or more.

the reason for this is that if it is low miles that generally means it has sat for some time at some point and I know also from several purchases that letting a vehicle sit is the worst thing you can ever do to it.

eg; I had the chance fairly recently to buy what looked to be a excellent condition 2001 chevy short bed regular cab with the 5.3 v8 and 37k from a family friend who was on the older side of 60 and is very very particular about everything... and I mean everything.

she had had it since it was new and had all the proper maintainence done on time and she had paperwork to prove it.
long story short; I had it about a 8 months before the lower end started knocking badly and me and a friend tore it down.

we found that it was obviously not driven much in the recent years as was evident by the light rust only above the spot where the oil sits when full and stationary in the pan. the connecting rods where lightly corroded all over by all the oil having had sometimes a month or more to drain off of them before it was ran again. meaning that every time it sat awhile and ran again it was grinding the surface corrosion off and taking with it part of the crankshaft, connecting rod, bearings ect. each time it was driven.
this is with perfect dealer maintainence and being garage kept in texas.
