Yeah... I wanted her to be able to have a skill that would last a lifetime. I get a lot of enjoyment out of playing (started when I was 14) and she seems to be very musical so I just play off that. As long as she enjoys it that's all that matters. She still mutes some of the strings because her hands are so small but she is doing really good.

Besides... I figure I have one job as a parent and that is to keep her off the pole and out of porn. If I can do that then I have succeeded lol.

*EDIT* She has the slide portion of "Smile" down but most of it is played on High E so it is pretty easy.

This was the very first song I taught her and she was getting pissed at me for making her practice one last time as evident at the end of the video lol

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1JUmWvRubY&feature=youtu.be

Then I was teaching her a easy way to start playing "Secret" by Missy Higgins since she loves this song. Like I said.... I keep her musical style away from pop shit as much as I can. (And yeah... that is a guitar tab taped to the wall lol)

She was 6 almost 7 when I took this.

OP I think you missed the point.

That is just stupid to spend that much time cleaning a truck/car or whatever.

Do you scrub your toilet with a toothbrush? Wax your sac?

If you spent that much time rubbing your girlfriend you would have a much happier life.

But seriously what's the point? Do you park in a garage and never take it out in weather?

Every time it rains you would need to rewash.
Every time you go in dirt you would need to rewash.
Every time the sprinklers spray it you would need to rewash.
Every time a bird shits on it you would need to rewash.
Every time a dog pisses on a tire you would need to rewash.
Every time pollen falls on it you would need to rewash.

I'm not the op but I think You missed the point. It is his truck and if he chooses to keep his truck clean and wash it after all the things you list then that is his choice. Just because you choose to not do it doesn't mean you're wrong. It just means you have different priorities. But saying it is stupid?? Nah.. Not to him (or me for that matter). If it is something that he (or I) enjoy then so be it. I personally think it is crazy to take our trucks off road and scratch the shit out of the paint but there are plenty of people on this forum that do just that. Are they stupid for doing that? Nope, not at all. If they enjoy doing it then that is all that matters.

Different strokes my friend... Different strokes.

    Committed is the word here.
I grab a tall glass of scotch and start to clean/ detail. When that glass is empty my job is done. Doesn't matter how far I made it. I always start with the driver side so my passenger side is generally dirty all the time.
I have only done this 2x in the last 3 years I've owned my truck.
No under any circumstances is my truck going to take 28 hrs out of my life to be detailed.
Plus it looks better a little dirty. Sign of being used for what it was made for.

    Excellent writeup man.

Lots of detailed information in one post. I'm new but I will most likely try this soon as I can. I bought my 2006 taco just last October and I need to get it detailed.

What about my ARB front bumper? Even after I hand wash w/ some cotton cloths I still see smudges. What should I use to get rid of those smudges?

Wax? What about smoothing out the wrinkles in the nutsac? I may, MAY, get the time to completely detail my truck once per year. But that is only like 8 hours.

@Utard - Just saw your post. I'm with what @B.Turner said. Pretty much spot on.

Plus, keep in mind. The most important bit is… I did this as an exercise. I'm preparing to do some high-end detailing projects on certain high-end sports cars. I just thought it'd be a great idea to practice all those techniques I've learnt on the truck and then take them a step further on sports cars. So far, I'm very happy I did it.

Plus, it has become the most popular article on my website to date. Win-win.

This whole project led to some more good stuff. The original article was extremely long so I decided to create a "cliff notes" version with all the steps.

This is the followup story but I'm going to try and embed an infographic I created for it below: (disclaimer - This is mainly for the mods. I don't want to break any TW rules. I don't sell anything off my blog - yet, at least. While I'm trying to grow it, please know that if I actually manage to grow the site enough, I'd be looking to become a forum sponsor. Just know, I'm no trying to take advantage of TW. I love it here. Please PM me with any concerns.)

I am planning on doing that after i get out of the desert and go to work with my porter-cable. But I've read that clear coat on Toyota trucks is very thin, I dont have a paint gauge to measure it. Do I have enough clear coat to be paint correcting?

That is going to depend on the age and condition of your truck and paint. Without knowing what year model you drive and the condition of the paint it's hard to say.
